Word reached Lyle on Thursday [illegible] former parishioners of Rev. O. M Langehough, age 65, of his sudden death at his home in Chicago Early Thursday morning, April 7.

He had conducted mid week [illegible] services Wed. eve. at [illegible] Lutheran church where he has been Pastor for the past [illegible] years. He and his wife had [illegible] before retiring and death came unexpectedly.

Knut Lasten Rites Held At Six Mile Grove

One of Nevada township's oldest pioneers, Knut O. Lasten, 87, died at Mercy hospital in Mason City, Tuesday, March 22, after a three and a half weeks' illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating with interment in the church cemetery.

Knut O. Lasten was born July 5, 1872 in Nevada township, Mower county on a farm where he had resided all his life. He was the son of Ingeborg and Ole Lasten.

Funeral services were held for a former Lyle resident, Dorwin W. Johnson, Saturday Feb. 27 at Nissawa, Minn. He died Thursday, Feb. 25, from a lingering illness. Interment was at Nissawa.

He was born in Lyle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Johnson, and grew to manhood at Lyle. He lived there until he entered the army in World War I.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys, a sister, Orla of Minneapolis, three brother, Henry O. Johnson of Lyle, Ted of Tacoma, Wash., and George of Alhambra, California.

Funeral services for a former temporary Lyle depot agent Archie W. Finnegan, 59, were held at Blooming Prairie Catholic church Tuesday morning, February 16 with interment at Blooming Prairie.

He had been a depot agent at Grafton, also at Rose Creek and Blooming Prairie on the Milwaukee Road until nine years ago when he suffered a stroke and has been confined to a Rest Home at Owatonna. He passed away suddenly at University hospital in Minneapolis Saturday morning, Feb. 13.

Funeral rites for Ingebright I. Anderson, 77, a lifelong Lyle area man and retired farmer, who died at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital in Osage Wednesday, December 30 following several strokes, were held Saturday, January 2 at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran church with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating.

Mr. Anderson, who resided alone on a farm about five miles east of Lyle, was found by neighbor, Rufus Frank, on the floor of his home after suffering a stroke December 22.

Oscar Thykeson, age 82, a Lyle resident for many years, died at the Good Samaritan Home at Mason City last Wednesday evening, Nov. 18. Funeral services were held Saturday, afternoon, Nov. 21, at Our Savior Lutheran church in Lyle with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating and interment was in West Freeborn cemetery.

He had made his home for the past six years with Mr. and Mrs. Jay Mortenson until about a year ago when he went to live with his daughter (Harriet), Mrs. Elder Bottelfson at Northwood.

Funeral services for a former Lyle resident, William R. Hunter, 85, who was born at Northwood, Iowa and died at Minneapolis last Monday were held Thursday, Oct. 15, at Washburn and McKreive funeral home southeast chapel with interment in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. Hunter died from a heart attack following a lingering illness due to several strokes.

Funeral services for Ole Risness, age 72 were held at Worlein's in Austin Friday.

The elderly bachelor, who lived alone with only his dog, in a shack in the woods in the Six Mile Grove area was found dead last Tuesday afternoon when Lavern Austinson walked there to deliver some Christmas boxes. Finding no one there he called in a neighbor Nordahl Nelson and both investigated and found his frozen body, and dog locked in the shack with him.

Former Lyle Publisher Dies In Minneapolis

Lyle friends have learned that a former resident, William Nordland, 88, Editor and publisher of the Lyle Tribune for 49 years, died in Minneapolis last Thursday, April 25. He had been making his home at the Alliance Rest Home there for the past few years since the death of his wife in 1959. The Nordlands Published the Lyle Tribune, a weekly newspaper, from 1902 to 1956 when he retired.

Julie Ann Chaffee, 65, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday Nov. 10, 2016, at Hillside Health Care Center in Missoula, Montana. She was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in August of this year.

Julie was born Nov. 12, 1950, to Loy and Leora Enerson of Rose Creek, Minnesota. She attended Lyle Public School, graduating in 1968, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.

Shirley M. Jirele, age 88, passed away in Tempe, Arizona, on Nov. 1, 2016.

She was born in Spring Grove, Minnesota, on Nov. 9, 1927, to Theodore and Agnes Wennes, the oldest of five children. She grew up in Austin, Minnesota, and received her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance and music education from St. Olaf College in 1949.

Shirley taught public school vocal music in Westby, Wisconsin, for two years before returning to Austin, where she taught private voice lessons. She married her beloved Edward L. Jirele in 1952.

Dale W. Murphy, 73, has passed away.

Dale was born on March 21, 1943, in Lyle, Minnesota, the son of Bernard and Lela (Walsh) Murphy.

He attended Lyle High School and then served our country in the US Army. He served as a medic and on border patrol from January of 1965, receiving his honorable discharge from the reserves in 1971.

He was united in marriage to Judy Budin on Oct. 15, 1977, at St. Theodore Catholic Church.

Earl Joseph Mudra, Jr., 54, died unexpectedly in his sleep on May 27, 2008.

He was born June 26, 1953 to Earl and Matilda (Svenson) Mudra in Austin, where he grew up and attended school. Earl worked various jobs.
Survivors include his mother, Tillie (Richard) Kelley, Austin; two sisters, Janice (David) Goldman, Austin; Lois (Bruce) Beer, Michigan; three nieces, Raquel Beer, Nichole Beer, Staci (Goldman) Bruce; nephew, Joe Goldman; great-nephew, Cayden Bruce.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl J. Mudra and his grandparents.

Irene May Gladys Clausen Gemmel, age 81, passed away July 1, 2003, in LaVerkin, Utah.

She was born Nov. 9, 1921, to Marie and Rudolph Clausen in Osage, Iowa. She was educated in Iowa and Minnesota and spent most of her life caring for ill people in their homes. Her sister moved her to Utah in 1997 to oversee her care.

Irene and Albert E. Gemmel were united in marriage Nov. 8, 1959, and lived in Austin.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; a sister, Jeri; and a brother, Jerome Clausen.

Ethel Mary Harrison, 90, of Austin died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Ethel Mary Young was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Wiscoy Township in rural Winona County to George and Mame (Corcoran) Young. She married Richard Ellsworth Harrison on Feb. 6, 1947, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Together, they had two sons, Gary and Steve.

Iris Lorraine Hackensmith, 85, of Austin, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at Our House Senior Living.

Iris was born May 5, 1924 in Austin to Lester and Agnes (Gemmel) Ball. She was a retired employee of Hormel Foods having worked there for many years, and she also worked at the VFW. Iris enjoyed fishing, traveling, dancing and visiting with her family.

Glenn Melvin Brandt, 92

Glenn M. Brandt, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at his home at The Cedars of Austin.

Glenn was born April 27, 1923, in Austin, Minnesota, to Michael and Edna (Priem) Brandt. He graduated from Austin High School in 1941. Glenn married Loriene Hanson in Austin on Nov. 8, 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Company until his retirement in 1984.
