Rev. Victor D. Young, 61 of Spicer, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home in Spicer with his family by his side. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Green Lake Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at church. www.hafh.org In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Victor David Young was born on October 24, 1954, the oldest child of David and Joyce (Powers) Young. He was a devoted son and privileged sibling of Doug, Jarrod and Michelle. Victor felt honored to grow up with his brother Doug and help his mother look after Jarrod and Michelle when they were young. In his teenage years he worked for Young Truck Lines and Farm Services. He attended Lyle High School, graduating in 1973. He continued his education at AFLC Bible School, Austin Junior College and Mankato State University where he received a major in History. Upon graduation he returned home and drove truck for Young Truck Lines for three years before he bought his own truck and trailer. In 1985 he met his future bride, Melinda Dickerson. They fell in love and were united in marriage on June 21, 1986 and over time became the proud parents of Amber, Matthew and Amanda. Victor left the trucking industry in 1990 and began seminary training at the Associated Free Lutheran Seminary, graduating in 1994 with a Theology degree. They moved to Spicer where he took a call at Green Lake Lutheran Church and Gausdal Lutheran Church, serving these beloved congregations for 22 years.

Victor loved music and at a young age took guitar lessons with the hope of becoming a professional musician someday. Although it didn’t become his career it did become a true blessing for him, whether using his talents to share with his church or for a time of rest and relaxation, jamming with his best friend, David Baird. More important than anything else was Victor’s family and the love, joy, comfort and care that they shared. Victor had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ which was the most important thing in his life and that living a personal faith has now become sight. Victor’s number one joy was preaching the gospel of Christ and that one must be born again spiritually through repentance of one’s sins and true sincere belief in Christ Jesus as your personal Savior.

Victor died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home in Spicer with his family by his side at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife, Melinda; children, Amber Young, Matthew Young and Amanda Young; parents, David and Joyce Young; and siblings, Douglas (Joelle) Young, Jarrod Young and Michelle Young.
