AUSTIN -- The funeral for James L. Schmidt will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle.

Mr. Schmidt, 24, of 709 Eighth Ave. S.E., a lifelong Austin resident, died Wednesday (Feb. 1, 1995) at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin.

He was born here July 31, 1970.

Survivors include his parents, LeRoy and Joyce Schmidt of Austin; his stepfather, Wayne Allen Heard of Mascoutah, Ill.; a brother, Walter John Schmidt of Austin; two stepbrothers, Glenn Allen Heard of Mascoutah and Shawn Eric Heard of Germany; a stepsister, Heather Renee Heard of Centralia, Ill.; two half sisters, Molly and Mariah Schmidt, both of Mountain, Mich.; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Allen and Mrs. Alice Schmidt, all of Austin. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and a stepbrother.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
