Rose Godfredson of Millville dies at 93

AUSTIN -- Rose M. Godfredson, 93, of Millville, formerly of Austin and London, Minn., died Thursday (Aug. 31, 1995) in Millville.

Rose M. Konecny was born March 26, 1902 in Shueyville, Iowa. On April 11, 1926, she married Godfred ``Fred'' Godfredson in Austin and they lived in Austin until moving to London after their retirement. Mrs. Godfredson had resided with her daughter in Millville since 1994. She was a member of the Lyle American Legion Auxiliary, a charter member of the Danish Sisterhood and enjoyed gardening and flower arranging.

Clarence Lenz of Harmony dies at 92

HARMONY -- Clarence Lenz, 92, of Harmony, died Friday (July 28, 1995) at the Harmoney Community Nursing Home.

Born on March 5, 1903, in Clinton County, Iowa, he married Marguerite Galloway on Nov. 12, 1930, in the LIttle Brown Church in Nashua.

The couple lived in Blue Earth before moving to a rural area southwest of Austin in 1950. They came to rural Harmony in 1965 and farmed until moving into town in December 1993.

Shirley Norregaard, 73, rural Lyle, dies

LYLE -- Shirley Norregaard, 73, a longtime rural Lyle homemaker, died Monday (June 5, 1995) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Shirley Paulson was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Dodge County. On Nov. 16, 1945, she married Walter Norregaard in Lyle. She lived in the Lyle area most of her life. Mrs. Norregaard was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was a former president of St. Mark's Lutheran Home Auxiliary.

Margaret Huston, 67, area resident, dies

AUSTIN -- Margaret Huston, 67, a longtime area resident and Oakland homemaker, died Friday (July 15, 1994) in the emergency room of St. Olaf Hospital here.

Margaret Cafourek was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Austin and attended a country school in the Lyle area. On Oct. 20, 1951, she married Charles E. Huston in Austin. Mrs. Huston was a member of Crane Community Chapel here, and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries.

Laverne Hermanson, once of area, dies

AUSTIN -- Laverne L. Hermanson, 79, of Youngtown, Ariz., a former Austin resident, died Saturday (May 21, 1994) at his home.

Born Aug. 30, 1914, in Worth County, Iowa, he grew up near London, Minn., and attended London schools. He and Dorothy Stanton were married May 4, 1934. While in the Austin area, he worked for Youngs Trucking Co. and also farmed with his father on the family homestead. He had lived in Arizona since June 1942 and was employed at Valley Electric in Phoenix for 25 years before his retirement in 1974.

Grace M. Prouty, 95, dies in Mable

RESTON -- Grace M. Prouty, 95, a former area farm homemaker, died Wednesday (Feb, 2, 1994) at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Grace M. Williams was born Nov. 28, 1898, in Lyle, attended Lyle schools and graduated from Lyle High School. On April 8, 1923, she married Charles H. Prouty in Lyle. They lived in Austin and farmed in the Pine Island area before moving to Preston in 1945. Her husband died Dec. 4, 1979. Mrs. Prouty lived in Canton from 1983 until entering the nursing home Apri1 18, 1986. She was a member of the Lyle Willing Workers and Henrytown Lutheran Church.

James Kilgore, 71, Austin resident, dies

AUSTIN -- James E. Kilgore, 71, of 606 Fifth Place S.E., a retired longtime Hormel Foods Corp. employee and lifelong Austin resident, died of natural causes Monday (Jan. 10, 1994) at his home.

He was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1942. Mr. Kilgore was employed at Hormel for many years before his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a sister, Ardella Haldorson of Austin. A brother preceded him in death.

Josephine Machaceck, St. Ansgar, dies

AUSTIN -- Josephine E. Machacek, 98, a former resident of London, Minn., died Friday (Feb. 12, 1993) at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansger, Iowa.

She was born Josephine Cafourek on June 7, 1894.

Survivors are a daughter, Marlene Halvorson of Lyle; son Paul Thompson of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grand children; nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday at Crane Community Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Spring burial will be at Woodbury Cemetery.

Austin resident Charles Adams, 90, dies

AUSTIN -- Charles W. Adams, 90, of 808 Ninth Ave. N.W., died Tuesday (July 21, 1992) at Comforcare Care Center here.

Survivors include his wife, Lyla; twin daughters, Dolly Caspers of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bonny (Mrs. Bob) Cameron of Bloom-ington, Minn.; and a granddaughter.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Austin, with the Rev. R. Allan Flint officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary here and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Arthur Hughson of Austin dies at 73

AUSTIN -- Arthur L. Hughson, 73, of 705 Eighth St. S.W., a retired Geo. A. Hormel &; Co. employee, died Wednesday (May 6, 1992) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home here.

Born May 12, 1918, in Lyle, he grew up there and attended Lyle Public Schools. On Aug. 7, 1943, he married Mary Thompson in Birmingham, Eng-land. Mr. Hughson was a member of First United Methodist Church and the DAV, American Legion and VFW.

Etta Goodew, once of Austin, dies at 86

AUSTIN -- Etta V. Goodew, 86, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and formerly of Austin, died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter in St. Ansgar.

Born Etta V. Eckert on Feb. 22, 1906, in the Windom, Minn., area., she married Edward Goodew on Aug. 3, 1926, in Northwood, Iowa. They made their home in Austin until moving to St. Ansgar after her husband's retirement from Geo. A. Hormel &; Co.

Berthilda Haakenson, once of Lyle, dies

LYLE -- Berthilda Haakenson, 92, a resident of St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin and formerly of Lyle, died Sunday morning (Feb. 2, 1992) at the nursing home.

Born July 28, 1899, in Dawson, Minn., she married Olaf H. Haakenson there on Dec. 25, 1925. Mrs. Haakenson lived in Dawson, Madison, Farmington and Northfield, Minn., before moving to Lyle where she lived 22 years. She owned and operated Haakenson Grocery in Lyle. She was a member of the Lyle Commercial Club, Lyle Lioness Club, Our Savior's Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and the American Red Cross.

Bernhard 'Bernie' Fahje, Lyle, dies at 78

LYLE -- Bernhard W. ``Bernie'' Fahje, 78, a longtime resident of Lyle, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 1991) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

In addition to his wife, Irene, he is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Mrs. Robert) Anderson of Rochester, Dianne (Mrs. Charlie) Gardner of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Cindy (Mrs. Frank) Postic of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Fahje of Austin and Walter Fahje of Clayton, Calif.; and two sisters, Alice Nelson of Eugene, Ore., and Esther Nelson they married brothers of Lyle.

Alvin Nelson of Lyle area dies at 95

LYLE -- Alvin B. Nelson, 95, a lifelong Lyle-area resident, died Saturday (Oct. 26, 1991) at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Born Aug. 27, 1896, in Nevada Township, Mower County, he attended Nelson School in rural Lyle. He was a member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Jeanette Reuter of Austin, Harriet Miller of Minneapolis and Lillian Anderson of Rochester. Five sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Son of Russell and Teresa Slowinski dies

LYLE -- Anthony Loren Slowinski, the 1-week-old son of Russell and Teresa Dunn Slowinski of rural Lyle, died Tuesday evening in St. Olaf Hospital.

He was born July 9 at St. Olaf Hospital.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Daniel Duane at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Slowinski of Austin; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sandra Dunn of Austin; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Johnson of Austin.

Steven Pihelgas Funeral Held December 12

Funeral services for Steven Pihelgas, 14, who as killed Sunday, December 9 in a tractor accident in Lyle, were held Wednesday, December 12 at our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle with the Rev. Harold Luecke officiating.

Steven Michkel (sic) Pihelgas, the son of Kaljo and Kathleen (Matter) Pihelgas, was born in St. Paul December 28, 1958.
