Mrs. H. L. Miles obituary

Last Friday came the sad news of the death of Mrs. H. L. Miles, who died at her home east of St. Ansgar on that morning. She was the daughter of Ole Thorstad and was born near Mona, Iowa, on the 17th day of May, 1869. She was well and favorably known here and her host of friends in Lyle extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The remains were laid to rest in Mona cemetery on Sunday last.

Saturday afternoon, at 1 o'clock Mr. Ole A. Muren at the home of his son three miles west of the village, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Muren was born in Jonardalen Langlem Opper Tallemarken, Norway, June 11th 1822. Deceased has had poor health for the past thirteen years and has been confined to his bed since the 7th of last August.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Muldown, a former Lyle resident were held at Bonnerup and Son funeral Chapel in Albert Lea, Minn. Thursday, February 1 with the Rev. Otto Wedul officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Mona.

She passed away at the home of her daughter, Hazel I. Muldown in Albert Lea Monday evening, January 29.

Simon E. Myhre, age, 75, died at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin early Sunday morning from a heart condition, where he had been a patient only one week.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior Lutheran church in Lyle Thursday, April, 23, at 2 p. m. with the Rev. G. E. Knudson of Austin, Minn. officiating, with interment at Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Clifford O. Martin, 62, Twin Valley, Minn, died Tuesday at Oxnard, Calif., where he was visiting his sister, Mrs. Lillian Martin Kearns.

A former resident of Lyle area, he farmed at Twin Valley. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. John Hoffman (Marjorie), Minneapolis, Mrs. Kearns, Oxnard, Mrs. Thomas Bodkin (Myrtle), Chicago; four brothers, Melvin of Minneapolis, Arthur of Winklman, Ariz., Galen of Lyle and Judene of Albert Lea.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Worlein Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anna Sophia Mortenson was born October 10, 1873, to Peter and Marie Hansen at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and passed away at her home in Lyle October 20, 1958, at the age of 85 years and 10 days. When Mrs. Mortensen was six months old the family moved to Lyle where her father opened the first harness shop. Mrs. Mortensen lived in Lyle for 84 1/2 years.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 23 at Lyle.

Jens (James) Mortensen, 90, died Monday afternoon at his home in Lyle.

Surviving are his wife, Anna; two daughters, Amanda and Mrs. L. G. Howard (Katherine), Lyle; three sons, Jay, Orville and Lloyd Mortensen, Lyle. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. J. P. Mortensen, 85, died this morning at her home in Lyle. She had resided there since she was six months old.

Jacob C. Myhre, 85, died Saturday at his home in Lyle.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; five children, Jurine, Conrad and Alvin of Lyle, Mrs. W. H. Gunn (Daisy), Colorado City, Texas, and Glenn of North Hollywood, Calif.; three brothers, Conrad of Cleveland, Minn., John and William of Austin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon.

MRS. MAGNA MARTIN

Mrs. Magna Martin, daughter of Knut and Ingrid Gunderson, was born at Fennimore, Wisconsin on March 6, 1871. She was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. O. Naess, of Castle Rock church there. She made her home at Fennimore until her marriage to Thomas Martin in September of 1894. Most of the rest of her long life has been spent in the Lyle community.

OBITUARY OF W HENRY McKEE

Wm Henry was born October 8th, 1875 and departed this life Wednesday evening Nov. 17, 1943 at the age of 68 years.

The deceased came to Lyle, Minn., from Walnut, Iowa and taught the Mona school successfully for three years, having taught a number of years in different localities in the state of Iowa.

On June 15th, 1910 he was united in marriage to Tillie Dock, and farmed in this community until 1942 when his health failed from which he never recovered.

Mrs Mathilda McKee, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs I K Everson, was born November 14, 1873 in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, and passed peacefully away July 24th, 1943 at the age of 69 years 8 months and 10 days. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Wm. McKee, and one son, Sylvan A. Dock of Minneapolis, Minn., and one daughter, Mrs Irene Larson of Mona, Iowa. Besides the immediate family, there is one sister, Mrs.

B.F. MULDOWN PASSED AWAY

News reached Lyle Friday that B. F. Muldown had passed away at Albert Lea the evening before. The deceased was well known in Lyle and vicinity, where the family resided for many years, prior to moving to Alden and later to Albert Lea, Recently he had been staying at the Majestic Hotel.

The deceased was about 68 years of age. Mr. Muldown was born in Iowa, Jan. 5th., 1861, and for a number of years operated an elevator at Toeterville, Iowa.

Marlys Elaine McCamy, two and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton McCoy, 900 West Grove St., Austin, Minn., died at 4:20 Thursday morning at Phalen State Hospital, St. Paul. She was taken to the hospital a month ago for treatment and a week ago contracted bronchial pneumonia which resulted in her death.

Thomas M. Martin, a prominent and well-to-do farmer, residing on the bank of the Cedar River, three miles west of Lyle, dropped dead Wednesday morning while doing chores near the barn. Mr. Martin was pumping water for the stock when death came swiftly. He had pumped a half pail water when he stopped, as if to catch his death and fell to the ground dead. One of his sons was standing by when the fatality occurred. Mr. Martin was about 53 years of age. He was very freshy and had suffered from heart attacks. He was married and leaves a wife and seven children.

Richard Gregg Murphy, age 92 of rural Lyle, Minn., died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.

Richard was born May 22, 1920, in Austin, Minn., to John and Lulu (Gregg) Murphy. One of four brothers, Richard attended school in Gregg County School District No. 10. He worked at Austin Drug before starting to farm with his grandfather, Reuben Gregg, near Lyle. This has been a family farm for 152 years.

Mrs. Mondolland, of Mitchell, was visiting friends here last Friday.

Ole Larson had the misfortune to break his ankle while loading hogs Saturday morning. Ole is doing well at this writing.

Dolly St. John, of Otranto, came over to meet her mother who came up from Osage Monday.

Hogs are bringing good prices here.

C.B. Angell, of Charles City, is in town in the interest of the Northwestern Life Insurance Co., of Minneapolis.

Julius Trebus left for South Elmhurst, Ill. Thursday to visit relatives.

Terence L. Meany, 83

Terence “Terry” Leo Meany, 83, passed away on July 15, 2011, in Austin.

Terry was born in Austin on March 30, 1928, to Francis P. and Ruth Meany. He was a 1946 high school graduate from St. Augustine (now Pacelli). Other schools attended were Loras College (1946-47) and St. Thomas College (1947-48). He earned his juris doctorate in 1953 from the University of Minnesota Law School.

He served with the United States Army from 1953-1955 in the Judge Advocate General’s Office.

Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa, with military rites by American Legion Post 105, Lyle. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour before the service Saturday.
