Funeral services for a Lyle resident John I. Johnson, age, 78, held at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle Thursday, July 28 with Rev. Stanley Klemesurd officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

John I. Johnson was born June 14, 1882 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Inbebret Johnson in Mitchell county, near Lyle. He passed away July 25 at the Jacob's Rest Home in Austin, Minn. where he has been cared for the past six years.

Funeral services for Sam Olson, 87, of Lyle who died March 31 at St. Olaf hospital in Austin from a lingering illness, were held Saturday, April 2 at Worlein Funeral Home at Austin with the Rev. Merland Johnson of Lyle officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Sam Olson was born Sept. 18, 1872 at Fla Dahl, Norway, the son of Amund and Helge Olson, one of a family of five girls and three boys. He came to Mower county in 1880, and settled west of Lyle where he spent most of his life.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna C. Volstad, 61, of Lyle, who died Friday, January 15, were held Tuesday, January 19 at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating.

Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Mona.

Edna Claudina Hofland Volstad was born November 11, 1898, to Iver and Christina Hofland in Mitchell County, Iowa.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank W. Kovarik, 78, who died at the Park hospital in Mason City Monday, November 9, were held Wednesday, November 11 at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating.

Ella Marie Hanson was born November 18, 1881, the daughter of O. P. and Christine Hanson in Mona, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior Lutheran church in Lyle Sunday for Steven Richard Golberg, age one year, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Golberg who died at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester Sept. 17 from leukemia.

He was hospitalized in the Memorial hospital in June and at Rochester, Minn., various times during the summer.

He was born Sept. 5, 1958.
Survivors include his parents and a sister Kathy; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orris Golberg of Mona and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Myhre of Lyle.

Lloyd Everson Rites Held Tuesday

HELD TUESDAY

Lloyd Everson, of Lyle, age 50, died suddenly Saturday night at 10 p. m. at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin following a stroke suffered that same afternoon.

He had been in poor health for the past four years but had been up and about. He was doing some repair on his car when the stroke came on. He tried to make it to the house but fell on the porch and was found there by his daughter Lola Kay. He was immediately taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Carl Hanson died

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Mona Lutheran church for Carl Hanson, age 79, who passed away quite suddenly Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Nelson, in Austin with whom he had resided for a number of years. He had been an invalid for 13 years. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery south of Mona.

Funeral services for Oscar E. Hofland, 44, of Toeterville, who died as the result of an automobile accident near Mona Wednesday, July 29, were held at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran church Saturday, August 1, with the Rev. Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

Oscar Emmett Hofland was born July 10, 1909, in Union township, Mitchell county, Iowa, the son of Elling and Gertrude (Engeseter) Hofland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Six Mile Grove Lutheran church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chris Nelson, 71, of Mona, who died in Austin Thursday, Sept. 27 following a stroke, were held Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

Mrs Chris Nelson, daughter of Andrew and Johanna Olson was born June 2, 1880 in Smoolene, Norway. In 1882 she came to this country with her parents and has since lived in the Mona community. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Funeral services for Charles O. Everson, 75, who died when his trailer home was destroyed by fire Sunday night, were held Wednesday, February 14 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

The Everson home, located north of the St. Ansgar Implement building on the north side of town, was completely destroyed by fire.

Funeral services for Adolph Thompson, 68, who died suddenly January 22, were held Saturday, January 27 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. V. Gjervik officiating.

Adolph Thompson, son of Knute and Martha Thompson, was born December 18, 1883 on a farm east of Mona in Mitchell county. As a young lad, he with his parents moved to the farm south of Mona where he had since resided. He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church by Rev. J. M. Eggen.

LAST RITES CONDUCTED FOR MRS. W. H. MCKEE AT MONA

Funeral services were conducted at the Lutheran church at Mona at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. W. H. McKee. The Rev. O. M. Langehough was in charge of the services with burial at the Pleasant Hill cemetery south of Mona.

Mrs. W. H. McKee died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Larson at Mona Saturday evening. Mrs. McKee was the daughter of Iver and Anna Everson and had lived almost all her life in this vicinity.

The death of T. Williams, which was referred to last week, takes from our little village another of its kind and respected citizens. Since moving here about nine years ago he has made many friends and we shall miss his cheery and kindly greeting. While a resident of Bode, Iowa, he held many positions of trust and responsibility. He was assessor for four years in Delano township and served about twenty years as road supervisor in his town.

Bergit (Betsey) Nordhagen, daughter of Guttorm and Marie Nordhagen, was born Feb 10, 1851, in Hallingdahl, Norway, was baptized and confirmed in the Ness church.

In 1866 the family emigrated from Norway to America in a sailboat, the trip across the ocean took eleven weeks, they landed in Quebec Canada and finally reached Beloit, Wisconsin on July 4th. Later they came to Northwood Iowa.

Obert J. Westrem was born February 4, 1891 and died very suddenly from a heart attack at his home in Mona, March 4, 1936 at the age of 45 years and one month.

He was baptized by Rev. J. Muller Eggen and confirmed by Rev. Diedrickson.

On October 6, 1915 he was married to Miss Elvira Myhre at Lyle, Minn. by Rev. A. E. Moe.

Mr. Westerm lived in this community his entire life with the exception of three and one half years which were spent at New Richmond, Wisconsin.

Vernon Volstad obituary

Vernon E. Volstad was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Lyle.
He graduated from Lyle High School and attended Austin Junior College and South Dakota State. He served for four years in the U. S. Navy.

On March 29, 1958, he married Carol Shipe in Austin, Minn.

He was employed by the State Highway Department and a Rochester engineering firm. In 1977, he became owner of Volstad Associates, a registered civil engineering firm.

Mr. Volstad died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1980, after suffering a heart attack at his home in Rochester.

Funeral services for Martin Willinger, 82, of Mona, who died Friday, May 30 at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage, were held Monday, June 2 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. Klemesrud officiating.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Martin Willinger was born on August 11, 1886 in Bergen, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed int he Lutheran faith in Norway. In 1906 at the age of 20 he came to the United States and settled in Lyle.
