Vernon E. Volstad was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Lyle.
He graduated from Lyle High School and attended Austin Junior College and South Dakota State. He served for four years in the U. S. Navy.

On March 29, 1958, he married Carol Shipe in Austin, Minn.

He was employed by the State Highway Department and a Rochester engineering firm. In 1977, he became owner of Volstad Associates, a registered civil engineering firm.

Mr. Volstad died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1980, after suffering a heart attack at his home in Rochester.

Surviving are his wife, Carol; his father, Victor Volstad, Lyle; a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Vicky) Little, St. Paul; a sister, Mrs. Allan (Carolyn) Hilgendorf, Menomonie, Wis.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jacqueline Sue.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 1980, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Rochester, Rev. Arthur G. Baggason officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa, with Vine Funeral Home, Rochester, in charge of arrangements.
