Funeral services for Sam Olson, 87, of Lyle who died March 31 at St. Olaf hospital in Austin from a lingering illness, were held Saturday, April 2 at Worlein Funeral Home at Austin with the Rev. Merland Johnson of Lyle officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Sam Olson was born Sept. 18, 1872 at Fla Dahl, Norway, the son of Amund and Helge Olson, one of a family of five girls and three boys. He came to Mower county in 1880, and settled west of Lyle where he spent most of his life.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church by the Rev. Mueller Eggen. On December 12, 1893 he married to Ida Arneson of Lyle, and four sons and three daughters were born to this union.

He is survived by his sons, Lafayette and Raymond of Minneapolis, Bennie of Albert Lea and Melvin of Auburn, Maine; his daughters, Mrs. H. O. (Sadie) Johnson, Mrs. Donald (Laura) Morgan, both of Lyle, and Mrs. Albert (Irene) Olson of Norwalk, Calif. Also three sisters, Mrs. Anna Dennis of Austin, Mrs. Emil (Hannah) Schwanke, Mrs. John (Julia) Peterson and a brother, Ole Olson, all of Lyle. Also 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ida, and two sisters, Mrs. Ben (Lizzie) Helfritz and Mrs. George (Emma) Jahr and a brother Eggen Olson, all of Lyle.

He worked as a railroad employee, and for many years was in the building profession, as a plasterer and stone mason. Mr. Olson will be remembered as a fisherman, hunter and trapper.
