Christianson, Sorine

Sorine Samuelson Christianson was born in Grue, Prestejeld, Solor, Norway, October, 14th, 1860 and after a lingering illness passed away at her home at Mona, Iowa, Sunday October 9th at 2 P. M., having attained the age of 77 years, 11 months and 24 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her native land and grew to womanhood there.

OBITUARY

Mrs. Charley Carlson passed away peacefully at her home at Mona, Iowa, on May 16, 1938 at 9:30 P. M. She was stricken with a heart attack on May 11th, after which she gradually grew weaker and on May 16 she sank into a coma, from which she never rallied.

Mrs. Gundi Johnson Carlson was born July 9th, 1877 at Mona, Ia. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. J. Mueller Eggen.

BLAKESTAD, LOUIS
DEATH
MONDAY MORNING

The community was shocked, Monday morning to hear of the sudden death of Louis Blakestad, a pioneer resident of the village. He dropped dead while shoveling snow in front of his residence, Monday morning. He was engaged in the furniture business until a few years ago when he sold his interest to his brother, O. G. Blakestad.

OBITUARY

The death of Mrs. Carlson, who has been ailing for some time, occurred Sunday. It was not until the past four weeks that she was confined to her bed.

The funeral was held from the home at 1:30 and the Mona church Tuesday afternoon and she was laid to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery, her six sons being pall bearers. Rev. O. M. Langehough conducted the service.

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Verdie Mae Carlson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa, with the Rev. Russell Wangen officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona.

Mrs. Carlson, 96, a longtime resident of the Lyle area, died Monday (Aug. 21, 2006) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Mrs. Charles Carlson Buried at Mona Today

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Charles Carlson, age 61, at the Mona Norwegian Lutheran church where she was a member.

Mrs. Charles Carlson, nee Gundie Johnson, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernt Johnson of Mona. Death came suddenly last Monday evening, May 16, following a heart attach. She is survived by her husband and two children. Mrs. Albin Nelson, a daughter, lives at Lyle; Galin Carlson, a son, lives at Minneapolis.

Death saddened the home of Gustaf Carlson last Saturday night, when their daughter, Emma, who has been confined to her bed for three months passed away.

HOLD FINAL RITES FOR J. O. Christianson

Funeral services for John O. Christianson, 88, were held yesterday afternoon at the Mona Lutheran church, the Rev. O. T. Boe officiating.

Mr. Christianson was born in Norway on May 6, 1861, and he passed away in Mona on Sept. 11.

Burial was at Pleasant Hill cemetery near Mona. Alfred Larson, Larden Halvorson, Chris Nelson, Adolph Jahr, Rudolph Haugland and Peter Nelson were pall bearers.

Orren John, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Christianson, passed away Wednesday morning. Death was caused by pneumonia. Orren would have been one year old Feb. 28. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the home at 2:30 with Rev. O. M. Langehough officiating. Interment was made at the Pleasant Hill cemetery.

MRS. MINNIE BERNDT

Mrs. Minnie Berndt, 83, died Tuesday afternoon at Raymond's Nursing Home after a lingering illness.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur and Chester Berndt, Austin; two grandchildren. Bruce Berndt, Austin, Mrs. Arnold Jacobson, Albert Lea; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Wollenburg, Minneapolis, Mrs. Helen Webster, Austin; a brother, Floyd Johnson, Isanti, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Thursday.

Funeral Held At
Our Savior's

Funeral services for Lloyd Berg, 62, were held Saturday, July 31 at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle with the Merland Johnson officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Mona.

Mr. Berg died Wednesday, July 28 at Mitchell County Memorial hospital in Osage, following a lingering illness.

Lloyd G. Berg, son of Gunder G. and Mina Johnson Berg was born in Otranto township, Mitchell County, Iowa, April 29, 1903.

It is with sorrow we chronicle the death of Grandpa Bjork which occurred Monday April 7th at 12:30 p.m. Andrew O. Bjork was born in Norway in June 1828 and emigrated to this country in 1861, settled first in Dane Co. Wis. where he resided four years, then moving west in 1865 and settle in Otranto twp Mitchell Co Iowa where he has always lived till the time of death. He leaves 7 children: 4 sons and 3 daughters and 11 grandchildren to mourn his loss. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Mona. His daughter Mrs. Peter Dock of Hawley, Minn and Mrs.

The death of Gullik O Blakestad came last Thursday afternoon at 5:40 after a lingering illness of about 8 weeks. The deceased had been in good health almost all his life until last fall when he was taken sick with appendicitis, that disease which of late has become so prevalent, and went to Rochester for an operation. After a few weeks at the hospital he returned home and was apparently in the best of health. He claimed that he had never felt better but from the hand of sickness he was relieved only a short time as about eight weeks ago he was stricken with pneumonia.
