Donna Belle Duenow Bensend, 83, of Mona, Iowa, died on March 3, 2016 at the Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City, Iowa.

Donna was born July 28, 1932 in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa to Roy and Bessie (Berg) Duenow. She was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran Church. She graduated from St. Ansgar, Iowa Senior High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Funeral services were held in Lyle on Tuesday for a former Otranto and Toeterville area woman, Mrs. Henry (Clara) Thompson, 82, (the former Clara Fossey) who passed away from a long illness at Long Beach, California, on Thursday, Sept. 23.

Services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating and interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Survivors are two sons, one sister and five brothers.

Olette Gunderson Berg passed away October 5, 1929, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 26 days. She was born in Brue Solar, Norway, on June 8th, 1854, and was baptized and confirmed at the same place. She came to America in 1883, and later was married to Eberhart Johnson at St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Mrs. Johnson has resided in Otranto township since coming to America.

Gladys Steene was born March 24, 1896 in Otranto township, the youngest child of Jens and Anna (Haroldson) Steene. She grew up in a family of two sisters and four brothers. She attended Mona grade school and was graduated from Lyle high school as valedictorian of her class.

Funeral services for Bertha Lunde, 86, longtime Mona resident, who died March 28 at the Heritage nursing Home in Mason City, were held April 1 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.

Bertha Lunde, daughter of Halvor and Martha Lunde, was born May 12, 1893 in Otranto township, Mitchell County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran Church. She attended Mona public school and lived in Mona most of her life. Miss Lunde was a member of the ALCW and Dorcas Society of Mona Lutheran.

Laura Marie (Jacobson) Hofland, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Anderson) Jacobson was born April 4, 1895 in Mower county. She attended the Rose Creek school and resided in Mower County a short time before moving to Mitchell County.

Funeral services for Leland Chester Haugen, 77, of St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa, who died on Saturday, January 31, 1987, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar were held on Wednesday, February 4, 1987 at Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.

Mr. Haugen was born on October 24, 1909 in Meroa, Mitchell county, Iowa, to Carl K. and Mena Caroline (nee Ask) Haugen.

Funeral rites were conducted Friday, July 31, by Reverend S. V. Gjervik for Eddie Hanson, who died July 27 at Mercy hospital, Mason City.

Eddie Hanson was born May 2, 1882 to Martin and Bertha Hanson. He grew up near Otranto and married Anna Nessett there Sept. 17, 1903. They farmed north of St. Ansgar, at Mona and at Murdock and Rose Creek, Minn., retiring to Adams, Minn.

Funeral services for a Mona farmer, Alfred B. Haugen, 83, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center March 8, were held March 11 at Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Alfred Benjamin Haugen, the eldest son of Knut and Elisa (Trom) Haugen, was born in Dodge county, Rock Dell, Minn. March 23, 1893.

The entire community was saddened last Thursday, March 9 of the tragic death of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fossey, prominent Mower county farm couple who lost their lives by smoke inhalation in a fire in their farm home northeast of Lyle.

Double funeral services were held Sunday, March 12 at Our Savior's Lutheran church, Lyle, with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery, Mona.

Dorothy Rose Duenow was born February 9, 1921 in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, to Roy and Bessie (Berg) Duenow. She was baptized and confirmed at Mona Lutheran Church. She received her elementary education at the Mona School and graduated from Luther College with a BA degree in education.

Dale Beaman Duenow was born April 20, 1925 in Otranto township, the son of Roy and Bessie (Berg) Duenow. He attended school at Mona Elementary and Lyle High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church.

Halvor Anderson of Mona Suddenly But Peacefully Answers the Final Summons.

Another of the oldest inhabitants of this vicinity has passed away. Tuesday afternoon Mr. Halvor Anderson Lysager, one of the oldest residents of Mitchell county suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at his home in Otranto township. Mr. Anderson had done no active labor for the last seven years since his severe illness but with exception of an attack of illness in 1892 had enjoyed fairly good health up to the day of his death.

B. Anderson, 97, Dies; First White Child Born in Township

LYLE--Bernard H. Anderson, 97, the first white child born in Otranto (Iowa) township, died today at St. Olaf hospital, Austin, following a long illness.

Mr. Anderson observed his 97th birthday Aug. 10. He was the oldest of seven children born during the second marriage of his father, Halvor Anderson.

For many years, Mr. Anderson was a tinsmith for a hardware store operated at Lyle by his brother, Andrew. When he retired in 1911, he was operating a farm.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Dockstader, 83, who died at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital September 17, were held September 20 at the Otranto Community church in Otranto with the Rev. Howard Grossoehme officiating.

Lucy Anne Dockum was born May 4, 1893 In Mansfield, Ill., the daughter of Harry and Rosie (Townsend) Dockum. When she was nine years old her family moved to Ames, later to Oklahoma, and in 1914 to a farm north of Meltonville.
