Double Funeral Held Sunday For Harold Fossey's

The entire community was saddened last Thursday, March 9 of the tragic death of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fossey, prominent Mower county farm couple who lost their lives by smoke inhalation in a fire in their farm home northeast of Lyle.

Double funeral services were held Sunday, March 12 at Our Savior's Lutheran church, Lyle, with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery, Mona.

Harold Ennard Fossey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Fossey, was born January 31, 1919 in Otranto township, Mitchell county and lived his entire life in the Mitchell county and Nevada township area.

He attended the Pleasant Prairie rural school in Otranto township and also the Gregg school in Nevada township, was graduated from Lyle high school and attended the University of Minn.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was married to Alice Louise Peterson on Oct. 2, 1948 at Harmony, Minn. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church and the Men's Brotherhood. Other community offices held were Mower county Republican Party Chairman; president of the Lyle public school board; president of the Lyle PTA; member of the Farm Bureau and Lions Club.

He died at the age of 48. He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Ann and Susan Louise; two sons, John Harold and Steve Randall; also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Fossey; one sister, Mrs. Albin (Elizabeth) Perau of St. Ansgar and one brother, Donald E. Fossey, Watertown, S.D.

Alice Louise Peterson, Fossey, (known as Allie Lou) was born October 4, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson at Harmony, Minn. She attended school there and was graduated fro high school at Harmony and attended the Minnesota School of Business.

As a child she was a Baptist and later confirmed in the Greenfield Lutheran church at Harmony.

She was married to Harold Fossey October 2, 1948 at Harmony. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church, the ALCW, church circle, and active in the Republican Party, Lyle P. T.A. and Pythian Sisters.

She died at the age of 45 years. She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Ann and Susan Louise; two sons, John Harold and Steven Randall; one sister, Mrs. James A. Sylling of Spring Grove, Minn. and one brother, Randall S. Peterson, Owatonna, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Honorary pallbearers were Congressman Albert Quie of Washington, D.C.; Harvey Sathre of St. Paul, Minn., Marvin Brill, Austin; Hugo Kuechenmeister, Lyle; John Ennen, Lyle and Jerald Rypka, Austin, Minn.

Casket bearers were Richard Murphy, Andrew Martin, Wayne Skov, Ozro Brown, Jalmer Peterson, Delos Frank, Dean Fossey, Alvin Peterson, Bennie Peterson, Orlie Peterson, Loren Gillund and Alonzo Johnson.

Friends and relatives came from Minneapolis, St. Paul and northern Minn.; Washington, D.C. and the surrounding areas to pay their respects.
