Larden Halverson, 73, long time Mona resident died suddenly Friday, January 13 at his home in Mona at 2 p. m. from a heart condition he had been afflicted with for the past three years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 17 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating, with interment in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Funeral services for Sam Olson, 87, of Lyle who died March 31 at St. Olaf hospital in Austin from a lingering illness, were held Saturday, April 2 at Worlein Funeral Home at Austin with the Rev. Merland Johnson of Lyle officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Sam Olson was born Sept. 18, 1872 at Fla Dahl, Norway, the son of Amund and Helge Olson, one of a family of five girls and three boys. He came to Mower county in 1880, and settled west of Lyle where he spent most of his life.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon for Carl Haugen, 83, retired Otranto Township farmer, who died Monday night at the farm home of his son, Odell Haugen.

Mr. Haugen had resided in the Otranto area for the past 47 years.

The services are being conducted from the Mona Lutheran church with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery near there.

Survivors include two sons, Odell and Leland, both of the Lyle area and a brother, Oliver, of Osage.

Carl Hanson died

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Mona Lutheran church for Carl Hanson, age 79, who passed away quite suddenly Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Nelson, in Austin with whom he had resided for a number of years. He had been an invalid for 13 years. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery south of Mona.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chris Nelson, 71, of Mona, who died in Austin Thursday, Sept. 27 following a stroke, were held Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

Mrs Chris Nelson, daughter of Andrew and Johanna Olson was born June 2, 1880 in Smoolene, Norway. In 1882 she came to this country with her parents and has since lived in the Mona community. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Funeral services for Charles O. Everson, 75, who died when his trailer home was destroyed by fire Sunday night, were held Wednesday, February 14 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

The Everson home, located north of the St. Ansgar Implement building on the north side of town, was completely destroyed by fire.

Funeral services for Adolph Thompson, 68, who died suddenly January 22, were held Saturday, January 27 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. V. Gjervik officiating.

Adolph Thompson, son of Knute and Martha Thompson, was born December 18, 1883 on a farm east of Mona in Mitchell county. As a young lad, he with his parents moved to the farm south of Mona where he had since resided. He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church by Rev. J. M. Eggen.

Knute O. Knutson, 73, one of the early settlers here, died at his home in Lyle Monday morning, of last week following an illness of several months. The funeral was held at the Mona church on Thursday afternoon, with Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge and burial was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Clarence Hold, son of Mr. Ole Holt, passed away at the sanitorium at Oak Dale, Iowa, last Wednesday. Clarence had been in poor health for several years and had gone to Oak Dale January 24th in hopes of regaining his health, but instead he contracted flu and death came as a relief to his sufferings, Wednesday night. he was always a bright cheerful boy all thru his sickness.

--John Erickson who has been ailing for the past two years passed away at his home Sunday evening at 5 o,clock. For the past six weeks he has been very low. The deceased was born in Norway, October 8th,1850. At the age of five years he came to Dane County Wis., where he lived for 10 years. In 1865 he moved to Mitchell County Ia., where he made his home until his death. He is survived by a widow and five children. They are Johnnie, Mrs. Mads Nelson and B.F. Muldown of this vicinity and Ed and Axel of Vida, Mont. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Funeral services for Martin Willinger, 82, of Mona, who died Friday, May 30 at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage, were held Monday, June 2 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. Klemesrud officiating.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Martin Willinger was born on August 11, 1886 in Bergen, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed int he Lutheran faith in Norway. In 1906 at the age of 20 he came to the United States and settled in Lyle.

Rites for Obert Westrem, 45, who died suddenly Wednesday evening of last week of heart disease, were held at the Martin Johnson home and at the Mona church Monday afternoon, the Rev. O. M. Langehough officiating. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Funeral services for Bert Swenson, 71, were held at Mona Lutheran church, Thursday, March 9 with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Mona.

Mr. Swenson died at Memorial hospital in Osage Monday, March 6.

Joseph Bernhard Swenson (always known as Bert) was born to William and Bertha Swenson, August 23, 1889 at Boscobel, Wisconsin. He and his parents came to Mower county in 1896 and settled on a farm west of Lyle.

Funeral services for Miss Mary Thompson, 85, who died Thursday, January 10 in Mona, were held at the Mona Lutheran church Tuesday, January 15 with the Rev. Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

The Mona Ladies' choir gave the song service.

Miss Mary Thompson, daughter of George and Olgaar Thompson, was born in Sogndahl, Norway on October 13, 1867. She was baptized in her native land and emigrated to America with parents at the age of seven. The Mona community had since been her home.

Funeral services for Carroll R. Rustad, 66, of Mona, were held Friday, November 1 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. Klemesrud officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery, south of Mona. Mr. Rustad died suddenly at Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage, October 30 where he had been confined since October 24 following an accident on his farm.

Funeral services for Clifford G. Schroeder, 64, of Mona, were held Friday, October 25 Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. Klemesrud officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery south of Mona. Mr. Schroeder died suddenly from a heart attack at his farm home Tuesday October 22.

Clifford George Schroeder, the son of Otto and Sadie (Harcourt) Schroeder was born at Charles City May 5, 1904. He attended grade school in Waterloo.

Funeral services for Gladys Steene, 85, who died July 25 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held July 28 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.

Gladys Steene was born March 24, 1896 in Otranto township, the youngest child of Jens and Anna (Haroldson) Steene. She grew up in a family of two sisters and four brothers. She attended Mona grade school and was graduated from Lyle high school as valedictorian of her class.
