Sylvan Edward Stromley, 91, of Lyle, Minn., died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Wildwood Grove Memory Care in LeRoy, Minn., due to complications of dementia.
He was born Aug. 13, 1922 to Henry and Irene (Larson) Stromley on the family farm near Mona, Iowa. Sylvan was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran Church and attended school in Mona, Iowa. In 1948, he joined Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota and served on the building committee as well as on various boards. In addition to farming, Sylvan worked at Lyle Lumber and later at the Huntting Elevator in Lyle until retiring in 1984. He loved his farm, the woods and rivers, and his flower and vegetable gardens. In 1972, he married Leora Hansen. Sylvan was a loving husband, stepfather, and step-grandfather who appreciated every day as a gift from God, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Sylvan is survived by his wife Leora Stromley of Lyle; step-children Julie (Robert) Chaffee of Missoula, Mont.; Jan (Sue) Enerson of Rose Creek, Minn.; step-grandchildren Lisa Everson (Danny Brown) and children Jeremy, McKenna, Camden, and Aaron, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Tawnya Gardner and children Tori, Jacob and Jared of Austin, Minn.; Shawn (Dena) Enerson of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Irene Stromley, his sister Orphie and her husband Loren Kuhlman, his sister Hazel and her husband Dean Lewis, his brother Orven and wife Maureen Stromley; step-grandson Todd Everson, and step-grandson-in-law Scott Gardner.
Sylvan’s body was donated to the Mayo Clinic Bequest Program for Anatomical Research. No services will be held at this time. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com. Worlein Funeral of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
