Vance Hotson Funeral Held January 28

Funeral services for Vance B. Hotson, 80, Lyle, were held January 28 at Our Savior's Lutheran church with the Rev. M. Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Woodbury Cemetery.

Mr. Hotson died Monday, January 25 from a heart attack.

Vance Bowers Hotson, son of Fred and Wilhelmina Hotson, was born in Lyle township September 23, 1890, and was a lifelong resident of Lyle township.

Barney D. Nye obituary

--Barney D. Nye, one of the earliest settlers of Nevada township, departed this life, and was buried from his residence, Thursday, March 31st, 1881. It was a very stormy day, but a great many people, with teams, gathered at his residence to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed dead and family. The sermon was preached at Minnereka school-house, by Rev. Alfred Cressey, of Austin. The house was filled. After the sermon the body was buried in the Beach cemetery. Disease lung fever. Age, 56 years. Leaves a widow, son, and daughter.

MATTHEW ST. JOHN.

Matthew St. John, an old resident of Lyle township, died Saturday morning, March 23, 1907, at the home of his son, A. M. St. John, at Lakefield, Minn., aged 87 years.

He was born September 7th, 1819, at Westerlo, Albany county, N. Y., and was married to Roxaline Pierce at Prattsville, N. Y., May 28th, 1845, by Rev. Headstrom.

William West obituary

At the home of his son in Minneapolis, Thursday evening, Jan. 3, 1900 (sic), of kidney trouble, William West, aged 76 years. He was one of the first settlers of Lyle township.

He was born in town of Stockton, Chatauqua county, N. Y. December 9, 1824. His father, John West, was a native of Massachusetts and was one of the early pioneers of Chatauqua county where he bought land of the Holland company. The son William grew to manhood on the Stockton farm, receiving a common school education. He was married in 1945 to Miss Charlotte L. Gordon.

LYLE, Minn.- Numerous cemeteries dating back a century or more are run down and uncared for, but Woodbury Cemetery along Highway 105 west of Lyle on the Iowa-Minnesota border is 111 years old and is one of the best kept in North Iowa and Southern Minnesota.

Alan Ray, age 54, of rural Lyle, MN, died Oct. 6, 2001 at his home near Lyle.

While living in Mpls, Alan worked as a pharmacist and district manager for K-mart Corp. In of May 1990, he and his wife Kandyce moved to rural Lyle, where Alan continued to work for K-mart and in 1998 joined Target as a pharmacist and district manager.

Services for Mrs. Evelyn L. Mahachek, 100, 4548 47th Av. S., who died Sunday, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Werlein Funeral Home, Austin, Minn., with burial in Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minn.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. V. H. Barnes, Lyle; Mrs. E. E. Greene, Minneapolis;
Joy, Indiana, Pa., and Ruth, La-Grange, Ill., and a son, Ross, Chevy Chase, Md.

Reviewal will be from 4 p.m. Thursday at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary.

Memorials to the charity of the donor's choice are preferred.

William J. Koopal, 77

William J. “Bill” Koopal, 77, of rural Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at his home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1939, in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Cornelius and Jennie (Buss) Koopal. Bill grew up in Lyle and graduated from Lyle High School. He worked for Alton Wilder Farms, and then for the Freeborn County Co-op.

Funeral Rites for Barclay Infant April 22

Funeral services for Paula Marie, 10-day-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hughbert Barclay were held Saturday, April 22 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, Minnesota with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating. Interment was at Woodbury Cemetery west of Lyle.

Paula Marie was born April 10. A heart condition was discovered after she returned home from the hospital, and she was returned there for observation. She was baptized at the hospital April 19 and passed away the following day.

Mrs. Gena Rawn Rites Held In Austin

Funeral services for a former Lyle Township woman, Mrs. Gena A. Rawn, 72, were held at Jordan Mortuary Chapel in Austin Saturday, August 5 with the Rev. Charles Pausley officiating, with interment in Woodbury cemetery west of Lyle.

She died at St. Olaf hospital in Austin from a lingering illness August 2.

Gena A. Hanson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Hanson, was born at Nashua, Iowa, December 24, 1888. Later her parents moved to Lyle township when she was eight years of age where she grew up and attended the Minnereka school.
