J. F. Humel suicide in St. Paul

We find the following account in Friday's Pioneer Press of the suicide of J. F. Humel, for many years a resident and business man of Lyle and well known throughout this part of the country:

"About 1:30 yesterday afternoon Jens F. Humel committed suicide at No. 915 East Seventh street. His home was in Sioux Falls, Dak., where he has extensive business interests. He was also a partner in a store on East Seventh street, besides having a general store at Adams, Mower county. He with his wife and son, have been in St. Paul about a week.

Death of Elmer Peterman

DEATH OF ELMER PETERMAN

Elmer Peterman, third son of [illegible?] Peterman of Lyle died at Atlanta last Sunday morning at four o'clock. He had been at Camp Grant at [illegible?] ford, Illinois, for a month and w[illegible] transferred to Camp Gordon but was taken sick on the train taken off and placed in a hospital [illegible?] Atlanta. He is a nephew of [illegible?] Cherney of this place.

Harold Hansen died

Harold Hansen, the young man who made his home in this place a year or so ago, stopping with H. I. Brorby, was kicked by a horse one week ago Sunday and died on the Thursday following. He was in the employ of a farmer residing a short distance east of Lyle at the time when he met with the fatal accident.

Arnold Scheffel Dies In Auto Mishap Sunday

Arnold Scheffel of Lyle was killed in a two vehicle accident in Austin early Sunday morning.

He was a passenger in a car driven by Terry Leidall of St. Ansgar when the car was in collision with a vehicle driven by Thomas Enfield of Austin at the intersection of highway 218 and Interstate 90 near the airport.

There were four persons in the Leidall car besides Leidall and Scheffel. They included their wives, Melodie Scheffel and Marcia Leidall and Rodney and Connie Williamson of Lyle.

Grandma Gould Gone

GRANDMA GOULD GONE

Mrs. Martha Gould, mother of Ed Gould of St. Ansgar, died Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Frank, at Rudd. She had been sick only about ten days, following a stroke. Her age was 86.

Mrs. Gould was the wife of Collon (sic) Gould, one of Mitchell county's pioneers. Her home was near Mona for years and after the death of her husband, about 30 years ago, she made her home with one and another of her children, spending part of the time in St. Ansgar.

Mr. and Mrs. George Rohde, Mrs. Sylvan Faas and Raymond Rohde returned home Wednesday from Manhatten, Kansas where hey had attended the funeral of their granddaughter and niece Julie Ann, two and one-half years of age, daughter of Sgt. and Mrs. Bernard Rohde who was killed near her home at Leavenworth, Kansas where her parents are now stationed, when she was hit by a car and killed instantly on April 29. Julia Ann was born at Frankfurt, Germany where her parents were stationed in the Army.

Former County Resident Found Dead in Wahkon

One of two individuals found dead at a vacation residence in Wahkon on Saturday, Oct. 8, is a former Mower County resident.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent Lindgren reported the bodies have been identified as 67-year-old Darwin Ziegler, formerly of the Austin and Lyle area, and 45-year-old Doug Kros. It was determined Kros was the stepson of Ziegler.

Lindgren reports at this time that there are no further suspects in connection with this case.

Sheriff: County man victim of murder-suicide

A Wahkon man and his stepson were found dead from an apparent murder-suicide Saturday, Oct. 8.

Mille Lacs County deputies responded to 40196 Tomahawk Drive in Wahkon – a trailer in a trailer park known as Mille Lacs Island Resort – at about 4 p.m. Oct. 8 to conduct a welfare check on 67-year-old Darwin Ziegler.

Vehicles belonging to Ziegler and his 45-year-old stepson were parked outside the residence. When deputies got no answer at the door of the residence, they made a forced entry into the trailer.

Sherman's daughter died

There has been but one case of diphtheria in Lyle. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Sherman died of this disease a week ago last Sunday....Cora Hildebrand died last Sunday of pneumonia....B M Johnson's youngest has been very sick with croup.... Mr. Angel of Mona will close his business there about the 1st of March, and go to Charles City, Iowa.

Florence Hildebrand funeral

--One of the saddest accidents that ever occurred in this city happened last Sunday evening. Little Florence, the 4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Hildebrand of the Commercial hotel met with a terrible death by fire. While playing in the hotel parlor at half past five o'clock in company with a younger brother the little girl set fire to a scrap of paper, the fire accidentally caught in her garments and in a moment more she was all a flame of fire.

Knut N. Bouvick died

The angel of death visited our little city again last Tuesday, when Knut N. Bouvick (father-in-law of John J. Hemsing) was called away, he having reached the ripe old age of 83. He died without much pain or struggle and was buried last Thursday in the burial ground at or near the stone school house south of Mona, Iowa.

Matie Melvina, the infant daughter of mr. and Mrs. W. B. Helfritz of Lyle died Saturday afternoon at 1:30 after an illness of about 15 days. Little Matie Melvina was born Saturday march 20th last and was six months, 12 days old. The funeral was held last Monday afternoon and interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Martin Willinger Funeral Held Monday, June 2

Martin Willinger, 82, a long time Mona area farmer, died Friday, May 30 at Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage.

Funeral services were held on June 2 at Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. S. Klemesrud officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.
