Lars Larson obituary

Mr. Lars Larson, aged 92 years, died last week at the home of his son-in-law, Martin J. Hanson, three miles south of Mona. Mr. Larson was the father of seven children, two of which have long since passed to the golden shore. Among the five children yet living are Mrs. M. J. Hanson and Mrs. Martin Larson, in the vicinity of Mona. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Eggen and his remains were consigned to their last resting place in the new Mona cemetery.

Mona man will remove son from Sunnyside cemetery

A member of the Mona Lutheran congregation is said to have declared that unless a certain Mason who was recently buried in the Sunnyside cemetery was removed he would have his son dug up and buried elsewhere.

Poor, benighted man! Is it possible that within five miles of Lyle there lives a man so narrow-minded, small, contracted, bigoted, stupid and superstitious and at the same time parades himself as a man of intelligence. Such a man, if man he can be called, belongs to the dark ages and has no business living in modern times.

Theodore Thompson died

Theodore Thompson, one of Mitchell county's oldest citizens passed away at his home in Mona, Tuesday morning at 1:00 o'clock after an illness of five weeks, at the age of about 71 years.

When a lad of about two years, he came to Mitchell county with his parents, from Illinois where he was born on June 14, 1852. He leaves besides his wife 8 children, two sisters and a host of friends and neighbors who will greatly miss him. He was of a jovial disposition, always cheerful and to know him was to be his friend.

Gustave Carlson died

News spread around town last Saturday, about noon, that Gustave Carlson had suddenly passed away at his home near Mona and it was later corroborated and the facts more completely learned.

He was in apparent good health in the morning and went with his son down to the creek to haul some sand. While there he complained of a pain in his chest and his son assisted him back to the house. His time however was very short and after resting there a few minutes passed away in less than half an hour after being brought home.

HANS SAMUELSON

Hans Samuelson passed away at his home south of Mona Monday after a short illness. He was 86 years of age and had always been strong and well until a few weeks before his death.

He was born in Norway and like the other old settlers came here while the country was new, enduring hardship and privation to build up a home.

He leaves besides a wife, two daughters and three sons to mourn his departure. The funeral was held from the house Wednesday afternoon.

O. D. Erickson died

Monday at 2:30 p. m., Mr. O. D. Erickson, after a years illness, quietly passed away to the unknown beyond. Mr. Erickson was one of Mona's oldest citizens and was known by everyone in this vicinity.

He leaves two sons and two daughters, all grown up who deeply mourn his loss.

Mrs. H. L. Miles died

Last Friday came the sad news of the death of Mrs. H. L. Miles, who died at her home east of St. Ansgar on that morning. She was the daughter of Ole Thorstad and was born near Mona, Iowa, on the 17th of May, 1869. She was well and favorably known here and her host of friends in Lyle extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The remains were laid to rest in Mona cemetery on Sunday last.

Obituary

Mrs. Gunder Larson was born in Grue, Solar, Norway. Feb. 6 1840.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Christenson and was married to Arney Larson in '64. They emigrated to America in '68, and settled on a homestead in Mitchell Co., Ia., where she lived until her death.

Her husband died 7 years ago. She was the mother of 12 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters of whom are living. She also leaves 4 sisters, 12 grand children and 1 great grandchild.

On Tuesday afternoon occurred the funeral of one of Lyle's best known and influential citizens, who was laid to rest after months of suffering. The concourse of friends and neighbors that gathered to pay their last respects to the departed dead was one of the largest assemblies gathered at a local funeral for some time.

Mrs. Anna Fossey Hanson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hanson, was born in Mitchell County, near Osage, Iowa on July 13th 1888 and died at her home near Toeterville Mitchell County, Iowa, on August 26, 1923. Mrs. Fossey had been ailing for some time but it was not considered seriously until Sunday evening, Aug. 26th at 9 o'clock when death came very suddenly, heart failure being the cause.

Mrs. Anna Fossey, wife of Otto Fossey, died suddenly, Sunday evening, at her home in Otranto Twp. death being caused by heart failure.

The funeral was held Wednesday, the service being conducted by Rev. Moe of Waseca.

Interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery. She leaves besides her husband and parents, four children and one sister,

Eberhart Johnson obituary

OBITUARY

Eberhart Johnson passed away Saturday morning, after a year's illness, caused by creeping paralysis, at his home, south of Mona, Iowa.

The deceased was born in Sole, Norway, October 24, 1847, and immigrated to America in 1868, settling in Mitchell county, Iowa. He is survived by two brothers: Martin and John Hanson, both of this vicinity, and five children: Charles and Elmer Johnson, Mrs. H. J. Hughes, Mrs. John Lenth, of Buffalo Springs, N. D., and Mrs. J. C. Burke, of Minneapolis.

Karen Torgeson obituary

Miss Karen Torgeson, who has been ill for some time, passed away at her home in Mona, Tuesday July 14th. For the past 12 years she has been helped by the county, having no relatives to care for her in her old age.

The deceased was born in Faaberg, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, May 17, 1834. 43 years ago, she came to this country, and in 1880 came to Mona, where she lived with her brother, Christian, who died about 12 years ago. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon and interment was made in the old cemetery, south and east of the Mona church.

OBITUARY

Ole Larson who has been suffering for many years with tuberculosis, died at his home in Osage Thursday December 18th and the remains were brought here Saturday for burial, interment being made in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. The deceased was well known in this community, having made his home here for a number of years.

Hofland baby died

Newspaper: 

The one month old baby girl of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hofland died Wednesday morning at 6 o'clock. The little one had not been noticeably ill and apparently was only suffering with a slight cold.

The funeral will be held from the Mona Church Saturday at one o'clock and interment will be made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
