Death of an Old Settler: Samuel Harris

DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.

Samuel Harris, an old resident of Lyle township, died at the residence of his son A. W. Harris at Sibley, Iowa, March 1, 1888, at 9:05 pm., aged 80 years, nine months and 18 days.

Mr. Harris was born near Hamilton, Canada, May 12, 1808, had lived on the old homestead in Lyle for twenty years and until about one year ago when he went to Sibley to reside with his son.

OBITUARY

We copy the following obituary of an old and respected citizen of this county, from the Transcript.

"At his home in Cedar City, Feb. 28, 1903, of cancer, Welcome Osborn, aged 78 years. He has been in failing health for over two years, and for much of the time has suffered intensely and death came as a sweet relief.

He was born near Montreal, Canada, Jan. 11, 1825, being the oldest son of Isaac and Sarah Osborn. Early left without a father's care, he learned self-dependence and knew from boyhood what hard and constant toil was.

On Saturday before Christmas, John Chandler and his brother suffered a savy loss by theft and incendiarism, near Austin. By some means it leaked out that a boy by name of Welch was concerned in the matter, and was prevailed upon to turn States evidence in the case.
