Rev. Cressey Found Dead

Rev. Alfred Cressey, for 59 years a preacher of the Gospel passed away at Austin, Tuesday morning. The Austin Herald gave the following account of his death: "When his granddaughter, Miss Grace Gardner left home in the morning Rev Cressey was blacking the stoves and when she returned at noon she found him dead on the floor, the room full of gas, the coal range having been polished and the gas range partly polished. In polishing the gas range he had struck the projecting bar that turns on the gas. This was wide open. From the position in which the body lay it was apparent that Mr. Cressey had sought to reach the door."

Mr. Cressey was born in England, in 1838. When he first came to America he located at Burlington, Wis., A group of settlers came from there to Lyle Twp. and Cedar City 1853-1856, and with one exception, Mr. C. was the last survivor of the company. He had preached in many of the villages and cities of the state, and was a faithful worker in the Lord's service.
