A Mower County judge has issued a gag order in the case of a 14-year-old boy charged in the shooting death of teacher Sharon Turnbull.

Turnbull, 33, was found shot to death in her Lyle home on Aug. 7.

The order by Judge Paul Kimball Jr. prohibiting attorneys and others connected with the case from releasing information about it was made public Friday.

Mower County Attorney Fred Kraft was filed a motion to try the boy as an adult, but no hearing has been scheduled.

The attorney representing a 14-year-old suspect in the shooting death of a teacher in Lyle, Minn., asked a judge Monday to exclude the press from an approaching hearing to determine whether the youth should be tried as an adult.

Mower County Court Judge Paul Kimball Jr. has ruled that the press may not attend a pretrial hearing to determine whether a 14-year-old will stand trial as an adult for the August shooting death of a Lyle, Minn., school teacher.

Kimball said hearsay evidence, "police investigation reports and psychological and psychiatric evaluations of the boy" would be presented at the adult reference hearing.

A hearing on whether a 14-year-old youth accused of slaying a Lyle teacher will be tried as an adult concluded Thursday after three days of testimony.

Mower County Judge Paul Kimball, Jr. was expected to announce a decision on the matter next week.

The youth was arrested on the basis of a juvenile complaint accusing him in the shooting death of Sharon Turnbull, 33, whose body was found in her home Aug. 7. She had been shot once in the head.

The 14-year-old Lyle, Minn., boy accused of killing his former teacher will not stand trial as an adult, Mower County Judge Paul Kimball Jr. ruled Thursday.

Kimball said that although the crime was aggressive and violent, "lacking is evidence that it was committed willfully, with premeditation and foreseeable consequences."

The youth is charged with shooting Sharon Turnbull, 33, through a screen door with a .22 caliber rifle as she watched television in her home Aug. 6.

Sharon Turnbull, 33, a math and physical education instructor at the high school in Lyle, Minnesota was killed Thursday, August 5, by a 22 caliber bullet wound in the head. She was sitting in her living room with the door open.

Turnbull was described by the school receptionist as "a single girl" when asked if she had ever married. She had been in Lyle for eight years.
