Hearing concludes on Lyle slaying suspect

Austin, Minn.

A hearing on whether a 14-year-old youth accused of slaying a Lyle teacher will be tried as an adult concluded Thursday after three days of testimony.

Mower County Judge Paul Kimball, Jr. was expected to announce a decision on the matter next week.

The youth was arrested on the basis of a juvenile complaint accusing him in the shooting death of Sharon Turnbull, 33, whose body was found in her home Aug. 7. She had been shot once in the head.

Mower County Attorney Fred Kraft asked that the youth be certified for trial as an adult. The hearing was closed to the news media.
