Gladys Ashley -- Lyle

LYLE -- The funeral for Gladys Ashley, 91, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church in Lyle, with the Revs. Russell Wangen and Lydia Mittag co-officiating. Burial will be in the Six Mile Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Ashley, of Lyle, died Tuesday (June 22, 1999) at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center. Gladys Ostenson was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Nevada Township, Lyle. In her youth, she did child and family care. She married Casper Ashley on Nov. 16, 1931. He died July 16, 1969, and she moved into Lyle to live with her son and grandchildren. In 1978, she moved into Heritage House in Lyle as its first resident and lived there until last month when she entered the nursing home. She was a member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid, choir, ladies quartet and Dorcas Circle. She was a longtime member of the American Legion.

She is survived by a son, Russell of Austin; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Harriet DeMar of Austin. She was preceded in death by one sister.

Friends may call at the Worlein Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
