Norman Nelson Rites Held At Six Mile Grove

Norman Leslie Nelson, age 33, son of Nordahl and Lenore (Olson) Nelson, was born January 29, 1929 in Nevada township near Lyle, Minn.

He was baptized and confirmed in Six Mile Grove Lutheran church by the Rev. O. A. Langehough. He spent his life at the family farm east of Lyle, engaged in farming with his father.

He received his elementary education in District No. 11, also Lyle high school and the Minneapolis Society for the Blind.

He was an active member of the Six Mile Grove Lutheran church, and served as Sunday School Superintendent for a year.

In May, of 1959, he lost his sight completely, and in August ot 1960 enrolled in the Society for the Blind in Minneapolis completing his course.

Although he had been afflicted with diabetes since the age of seven, he was courageous and accepted life with an understanding heart.

He died February 25, at 8:30 p.m. en route to the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital at Osage while in a diabetic coma.

He is survived by his parents; four sisters (Eula) Mrs. Harry Reshetar, (Eileen) Mrs. Merle Heard, (Carol) Mrs. Spencer Morgan, all of Austin, Minn, and (Charlotte) Mrs. Donald Feltz of Riceville, Iowa; also three brothers, Leland of Blue Earth, Minn., Chester of Austin, Minn, and Gary at home and his fiance, Miss Shirley Gates of Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 28 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating with committal service in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers (sic) were Andrew Martin, Russell Ashley, Duane Enerson, Carroll Hofland, Duane Elverum and Elroy Penning.

Relatives attending from out of town were Mrs. Barbara Bates, Aberdeen, South Dakota, Thomas Kervin, St. Paul, Minn., Miss Shirley Bates, Miss Kay Zimmerman and Mr. and Mrs Arden Nelson all of Minneapolis, Lee Nelson and family of Blue Earth, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Volstad, Owatonna and Bro. Jude Pidcock, Winona, Minn.
