Herbert Ralph Bjork -- Austin

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Herbert Ralph Bjork will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. James Mikkelson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona, Iowa.

Mr. Bjork, 83, of 1205 Ninth St. N.W., a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Monday (May 12, 1997) at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, N.Y.

Born Feb. 3, 1914, in Lyle, he graduated from Lyle High School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. He worked for Hormel in San Francisco and Austin. On Dec. 5, 1937, he married Arlene Lesch and she survives. Mr. Bjork was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, SCORE, Kiwanis Club, Austin Photo-Fun Camera Club, Austin Art Club and the Masons, and a former member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Lyle.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Ralph of Platteville, Wis.; two daughters, Dr. Darla Bjork of New York City and Gayla Bjork of Syracuse, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. There will be a Masonic service by Fidelity Lodge 398 A.F. &; A.M. at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
