David Heard Rites Held In Austin

Funeral services for David Merle Heard, age 17, who was fatally injured Friday evening, July 7 in a car accident near Austin, Minnesota were held Monday, July 10.

David Merle Heard, eldest son of Merle and Eileen (Nelson) Heard, was born September 19, 1943 at Austin, Minn. He was baptized in infancy at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church east of Lyle and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran church in Austin, Minnesota.

David spent his boyhood days in Austin where he received his education in the Nevelin, Shaw and Central schools. He was known as a very friendly young man and had many friends.

He passed away at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin July 8 at 12:07 a.m. as the result of a serious car accident.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Heard, three sisters, Kay, Paula and Suzanne, three brothers, Roger, Ricky and Darol, all of Austin. Also his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nordahl Nelson of Lyle, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leland.

Funeral services were held at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at Holy Cross Lutheran church, with the Rev. H. C. Bentrup officiating. Interment was in Six Mile Grove Lutheran cemetery east of Lyle.

Casket bearers were Ronald Richardson, Ronald Hagstrom, Gary Larson, Dennis Nelson, Thomas Heard and Carroll Austinson.
