LYLE -- School was back in session in Lyle this morning after being closed for two days as school officials coped with damages done by vandals sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Paul Trelstad said this morning that classes are being conducted as though nothing has happened, even though some damage, such as that done to door locks, have not yet been repaired.

An estimate of the damages by vandals was unavailable today, but is expected to total several thousand dollars, authorities have said.

Trelstad said plans are under way to conduct some kind of event to help orient the children to what took place at the school over the weekend.

News of the vandalism could be troublesome to the children, he said, since they have a sense of ownership in the school.

The children also were cheated out of two days of homecoming week events, he noted.

Trelstad said it appears the damage was the work of adults, since it would have taken some brawn to do some of the damage, even though the damages seem childish.

``I will press charges no matter who it was,'' he said.p
