HALVOR SAND VIG.

Last Saturday, May 22 occurred the death of Halvor Sandvig one of the old pioneers of this vicinity. He died at the home of Mrs. J. Sandvig where he has lived for a number of years. Mr. Sandvig was born in Telemarken, Norway the 17th of December 1842. His days of childhood and youth were spent in his native country. It was not until he had reached the age of thirty one years that he together with his parents and three brothers came to America. The family settled in Goodhue Co., but only a few months later moved to Mitchell Co., Iowa where they purchased a farm located only about one mile from Lyle.

Mr. Sandvig is survived by one brother, Knut Sandvig of Plentywood, Mont., who reached here in time to be with his brother the last few days of his life. Halvor Sandvig's parents and three brothers died some years ago.

In the death of Mr. Sandvig we are again reminded of the fact that the early constituents of this community are rapidly being decreased in number. It is well for us to remember the fact that the corps of men and women who came here in the early days have done a great deal to make this community what it is today. Their labor and life have brought the generation that has come to take their place, better conditions than those enjoyed by them.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in the Six Mile Grove cemetery, the service being conducted by Rev. Moe.

Mr. Sandvig's life was one of activity and usefulness. He always aimed to discharge the many duties placed upon him in a God-fearing and conscientious way. It may truly be said of him: this community is better because he lived here.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who so kindly assisted and sympathized with us in this our time of sorrow. We are especially grateful to the choir and for the many floral tributes.
