Another Settler Who Endured Hardships
in Early Days is Gone.

Richard Olsen Mycklejord, one of Mower County's pioneers, whose sudden death was mentioned in our last week's issue, has gone to meet his reward. The deceased was born in Eidsborg, Norway, Jan 24, 1884. At the age of 17 years, he came to this country with his parents, and like so many of our early settlers, first located in Wisconsin. After a few years of residence in Dane county of that state he came to Mower county to make his home and resided here until his death. In 1864, on the 4th day of May he was married to Miss Liv Tvingle. Their union was blessed by ten children, seven of which are living.

During the fifty years that the deceased was a resident of this vicinity he made many warm friends by his sterling qualities and the principals he stood for. He was one of the organizers of the Six Mile Grove Lutheran church and has since been sustaining it by his liberal gifts and person efforts. Mr. O was elected to several offices in the church of which he was a member. He was for many years an earnest and faithful Sabbath School worker. He had lived well and death came only to crown his labors. "It is appointed unto man once to die," but there are lives whose kind and noble deeds live after them to bless mankind. Such was the life of the one so lately in our midst.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Esser, Monday afternoon at the Six Mile Grove church and interment was made in the church cemetery.
