HENRY ROBERTS.

Henry Roberts, aged 82 years, died Sunday morning, Nov. 3, 1912 of pleuro pneumonia, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed McMahn on Mill street after an illness of two weeks.

He was born in Norfolk, England, June 16, 1830, and at an early age came to this country. He located at Jamestown, N. Y. and later married Jane Hill Locke of Bristol, N. H., a teacher in the public schools of Fruesburg, N. Y. In the year 1855 he came to Minnesota and in March, 1856, came to Lyle township. A year later, his wife came west and was met at Caledonia by Mr. Roberts with an ox team. He acquired land in Lyle township until he had 900 acres and farmed it for many years. They moved to Austin about thirty years ago and Mrs. Roberts died here in 1897.

Seven children were born to them, five of them living: Annice, now Mrs. Ed McMahn of Austin; Mrs. Eunice L. Rice, teacher in Austin, Charles A. Adelbert and Henry. Two, Benjamin and Mrs. Eva Lashbrook are dead. Since the death of his wife, Mr. Roberts has lived with his children in Austin and in Lyle.

Funeral will be held this afternoon, at 4:20 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed McMahn 309 East Mill street, Rev. Robt. Brown assisted by Rev. A. Cressey officiating. Interment in Oakwood.

Mr. Roberts was one of the oldest settlers of Lyle township and did much to change the pioneer conditions of an early day to the present advanced conditions. He was an upright man and a good neighbor and friend.
