AUSTIN -- The funeral for Paul R. Hallman will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Bruce Kronen officiating. Burial will be in Cedar City Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Mr. Hallman 79, of Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died early Tuesday morning (Aug. 8, 2000) at his home.

He was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Austin. During World War II he served as a captain in the Army Air Corps and was a C-47 pilot in the South Pacific. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves and returned to Austin in 1949. Mr. Hallman was a mechanic at Hormel until his retirement in 1982. He served in the VFW Color Guard for more than 40 years and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. In 1948 he married Marge Snyder and they were later divorced. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Rick of Minneapolis and Wayne (Kathy) of Palace Verdes Estates, Calif.; a brother, Robert (Shirley) of McAllen, Texas, and four sisters, Lois (Charles) Voogd, Donna (Alfred) Simon, Virginia Wilson and Barb (Larry) Young, all of Austin, and his companion, Iris Hackensmith of Austin. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and an hour before the service Thursday.
