Other cities win community pride awards

Lyle isn't the only southeastern Minnesota community to win recent awards from the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development.

In the Minnesota Beautiful/Com-mu-nity Pride contest:

The city of Dakota tied with Comfrey for third place in the 400-699 population category. Rollingstone was given an honorable mention in the category.

The city of Houston won second place in the 700-1,399 population category.

Rushford won first place in the 1,400-2,800 population category.

Also, Jack Rector of Lyle was named youth volunteer of the year in the Minnesota Beautiful/Com-munity Pride contest, and the Tri-County Record was awarded the media of the year award.

In the Land O' Lakes Community Achievement Project Awards:

Rollingstone won for business district improvement.

Rushford won the Environment and Energy award for river cleanup.

Dakota won for recreation.

Houston won for recycling activities.

In addition, Eyota won a Picture It Painted Award, co-sponsored by the Valspar Corp., and Red Wing won a Norwest Beautification Award.
