When nine years old the parents came to America and settled near Bellvedere, Ill. After a year, like early settlers, they started with ox team for the "West" walking most of the way and came to Mower County, locating on mile east of Lyle. This was in 1854. On February 2, 1866 she married Knut Amundsen, and to them, nine children were born, of that large family, but three are living, Mrs. Andrew Sten and Mrs. Malena Olson of Lyle; Mrs. E.E. Johnson of Wilbur, Wash. The husband passed away 23 years ago. Of late years the mother had not been well, but not until last December, was it known that she suffered from cancer and her rest came to her at the age of 86 years. Three sisters and a brother are left besides the three daughters, the sisters are Mrs. Anne Bergeson, Mrs. Gunhild Volstad of Lyle; Mrs. Malena Peterson of Buffalo, S.D., at the latter place the brother George Swenson resides. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran church, being confirmed by Rev. Clausen at St. Angsar. She lived her faith to the end and a good Christian wife and mother, was her record.
