AUSTIN -- The funeral for Leonard F. Heiny Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. Burial will be in Cedar City Cemetery.

Mr. Heiny, 87, of Austin, died Thursday (Dec. 25, 2003) at his home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Plymouth, Iowa. On July 30, 1938, he married Ruth Warrington in rural Austin. The couple farmed in rural London, Minn., for nearly 50 years. They spent 20 winters in Texas. He was president of the London Fireman's Club and volunteer firefighters and a 4-H livestock leader, and he served on the Conservation Club board for many years. He also served on the District 51 School Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Austin Eagles Club and the Lyle Legion. He enjoyed horses, camping and fishing at Cherney's.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Taryl (Phyllis) and Gary (Marcy Warrington), both of Austin; two daughters, Sharyl (Eugene) Nelson of Austin and Linda (Dennis) Whalen of Lyle; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Opal (Wayne) Stanton of New Hampton, Iowa, and Goldie Von Feldt of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Sidney (Eileen) of Austin; and special friend, Dorothy Cafourek of Glenville, Minn. One grandson, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and one hour before the service Sunday at the church.
