Justin G. Tieman, 90

Justin G. Tieman, 90, of rural St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

Justin Galen was born Nov. 6, 1924, to Gilbert and Julia (Olson) Tieman in Austin, Minnesota. He attended school in Mona, Iowa, and graduated from Lyle High School. Justin served in the United States Army during the Korean War, from Sept. 19, 1950, until his honorable discharge Aug. 19, 1952. He was united in marriage to Delores June Ripka on May 18, 1957, at Marshall Lutheran Church in Adams, Minnesota. Longtime members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Justin and Delores made their home and raised their eight children near Mona, Iowa. Justin was self-employed as a contractor, and later as a cabinet maker. He was very good with his hands, and enjoyed working in his shop. Justin was a longtime member of the Lyle American Legion Post No. 105.

Survivors include his children: Dennis (Debra) Tieman of Fremont, Wisconsin, Darwin Tieman of Austin, Minnesota, LaRae Tieman of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Spencer Tieman of Osage, Iowa, Debra (Rick) Smith of LeSueur, Minnesota, Bryan Tieman of Lyle, Minnesota, Douglas Tieman of Austin, Minnesota, and Denise (Shane) Tieman of Apple Valley, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren: Gabrielle, Timothy, Andrew, Jonathan, Bethany, Matthew, Ruth, Nicholas, Stephanie, Michael and Joshua Smith, Sarah Lester, Shaelyn and Jada Curry; great-grandchildren: Marcus Tieman, Abigail Tieman, Kennedy and Grayson Lester; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores June Tieman on May 20, 2012; by his parents, Gilbert and Julia Tieman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Ronald Myers officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and will continue Saturday morning for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment with military honors will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
