Funeral services for John Jacob Ruiter, 69, were held Monday January 3 at Bethel Alliance church in Lyle with the Rev. Richard Williams officiating.

John Ruiter was born March 8, 1897 in Meservey, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Engelke Ruiter. He was baptized at Immanuel Reformed church, Belmond, by the Rev. Janssen. He grew up in the Meservey area and attended school there and also attended Humbolt College in Minneapolis.

He was united in marriage to Tena Koenen at Meservey by the Rev. P. Pankuk and they established their home at Latimer for a few years then moved to Meservey where they resided for 11 years, later moving to Hampton, then to Lohrville before coming to Lyle where he lived the past 30 years where was a depot agent for the Chicago Great Western Railroad.

He died at Raymonds Nursing Home in Austin, December 31. His wife, Tena preceded him in death in September, 1966.

John was a retired depot agent and also was Lyle Village treasurer for 15 years, a post he had resigned only recently due to ill health.

Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Evelyn) Libersky of Lyle; one grandson, Larry Libersky and one sister, Mrs. Albert (Alvena) Wendell of Meservey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tena; three brothers and two sisters. Interment was in Zion Reformed Cemetery at Chapin, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Leonard Leidall. Floyd Obrecht, Harry Jordan, Vance Hotson, Jay Mortenson and Walter Denisen.
