AUSTIN — The funeral for Harold M. Nelson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. Interment will be in Cedar City Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Nelson, 81, of Austin, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2008) at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Harold Myron Nelson was born July 1, 1926, in Freeborn County, Minn. He attended country school in Freeborn County, then entered the Army. On Sept. 10, 1950, he married Janeth Gemmel at First United Methodist Church in Austin. Mr. Nelson was a retired employee of Hormel Foods Corp., worked for Nelson Machine and operated a lawn mowing service until he was 80. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Spamtown Snow Drifters.

Survivors include four sons, Arnold (Martha) of Hudson, Wis., Allan of Salida, Colo., and Ardell (Penra Grimley) and Alton (Shelli), both of Austin; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (Harold “Dick") Allen of Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2005.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.

The family prefers memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Cedar City Cemetery Association.
