AUSTIN -- The funeral for Don L. Ball will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Spring burial will be in Cedar City Cemetery with graveside rites by Austin American Legion Post 91..

Mr. Ball, 76, of 911 Fourth Ave., a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 1997) at Burr Oak Manor Nursing Home in Austin.

Born July 18, 1920, in Austin, he graduated from Austin High School in 1940 and attended Austin Junior College for a year. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Army Air Corps. On June 1, 1947, he married Elaine Bailey at First United Methodist Church in Austin. Mr. Ball was employed at Hormel for 42 years before his retirement in June 1992. He was a member and past post commander of Austin American Legion Post 91 and a member of Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick of Burnsville, Minn., and Steven of Rosemount, Minn.; seven daughters, Kathy (Mrs. Timothy) Cochlin and Ruth (Mrs. Ross) Chamberlain, both of Austin, Barbara (Mrs. Larry) Helland of Rosemount, Donna Wilson of Dodge Center, Nancy (Mrs. Hank) Robinson III of Blackhawk, Colo., Patricia (Mrs. Dan) McDonald of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Kristine (Mrs. Tim) McInnis of Apple Valley, Minn.; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Iris Hackensmith of Austin. Four brothers and a grandson preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.
