Funeral services for a lifelong Mitchell county resident, Mrs. Bessie Duenow of Mona, were held Thursday, February 25 at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Mona.

Bessie G. Berg, daughter of Mina and Gunder Berg, was born in Otranto township near Mona July 1, 1894. She attended the Mona elementary school and high school at Lyle, Minn. She continued her education at Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage, Iowa and Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in Mitchell county in the rural schools in Rock and Otranto townships for several years before her marriage.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She was married to Roy C. W. Duenow of Otranto vicinity October 24, 1917. They lived their entire married life in the Lyle and Mona community. Four children were born to this union.

The family were members of the Mona Lutheran church, and later became members of Our Savior's Lutheran in Lyle. She was a lifelong member of the Ladies Aid.

Her husband Roy died February 22, 1950.

Mrs. Duenow was stricken with a stroke Thursday, February 18 and her condition became critical Saturday. She died peacefully February 22, 1965. Her death and funeral services were exactly fifteen years to the day of her husband's death and also the interment.

She is survived by her four children, Dorothy of Mason City; Dale of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Dale (Donna) Bensend of Otranto and Dene at home. Also three grandchildren, Dennis, Denise and Donald Duenow of St. Ansgar; also three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Rustad of Trempeleau, Wis.; Mrs. Helga Larson and Mrs. Dora Carlson both of Austin, Minn. and one brother, Lloyd Berg of Lyle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Rhuben and Lee Berg and a sister (Blanche) Mrs. Lewis Sola.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were the Rev. Odean Tieman and Mrs. Mabel and Mrs. Mabel Rustad of Trempeleau, Wisconsin; Mrs. Ella Mang, Rock Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Duenow of Albert Lea; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Duenow of Mason City; Mrs. Chester Reistad and Mrs. Richard Anderson and Mrs. Dora Carlson of Austin; Mr. and Mrs. William Rowland of Osage; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wagner and Mrs. Paul Duenow of Grafton.
