Austin resident Charles Ball dies at 68

AUSTIN -- Charles F. Ball, 68, of 803 16th Ave. S.E., a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Monday (Jan. 23, 1995) in the emergency room of St. Olaf Hospital in Austin.

Born Nov. 2, 1926, in Oakhurst, Calif., he had lived in the Austin area since he was a child and was a graduate of Austin High School. On Feb. 3, 1962, he married Joyce Walton at First Methodist Church in Austin. Mr. Ball was an Army veteran. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion and a member of its funeral escort team. Also, he was a member of the VFW, Eagles and Moose lodges, and the Local P9 support group.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jean Ann Ball and Sheryl Ann Ball, both of Austin; a son, Dean A. of Vilseck, Germany; four grandchildren; a brother, Donald of Austin; and a sister, Iris Hackensmith of Austin.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church here, with the Rev. Wesley Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar City Cemetery in rural Austin, with military graveside rites by the Austin American Legion and VFW.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and a hour before the service Friday at the church.
