AUSTIN -- Two Austin adults and a juvenile were arrested Wednesday night for break-ins at two Austin businesses, and are being interviewed to see if they had anything to do with recent vandalism and break-ins in Lyle.

Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp said the three were caught after an officer noticed a breakin at Dakota Joe's restaurant. Police began looking for other buildings that were entered and saw three people run from the back of the Austin Red Owl, he said.

Officers surrounded a nearby wooded area and sent in a police dog who captured the juvenile, grabbing him by the leg, he said. The juvenile was treated for puncture wounds to his shin and released to his mother. The youth led authorities to the two adults, he said. Both are expected to be charged in Mower County District Court today with second-degree burglary, felony theft and trespassing, Philipp said.

Whether the three were involved with two break-ins in Lyle and serious vandalism to the Lyle Public School isn't known, he said. The two adults have denied it but they will continue to be questioned, he said.

Mower County Sheriff Wayne Goodnature said officers are continuing to look into other leads in the damage and thefts in Lyle as well as other vandalism to schools in Austin.
