1909 Oscar Hofland 1953

Funeral services for Oscar Hofland, 44, of Toeterville, who died as the result of an automobile accident, near Mona, Wednesday, July 29, were held at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, Saturday, August 1, with Reverend Stanley V. Gjervik officiating.

Oscar Emmett Hofland was born July 10, 1909, in Union Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Elling and Gertrude (Engoseter) Hofland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church.

Mr. Hofland was inducted into service in World War II, April 21, 1942. He served in France and Germany with Company A, 254th Infantry Regiment in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. After three years and three months of service, he was discharged July 27, 1945.

He had been employed by George A. Hormel & Co., for 17 years. Mr. Hofland died July 29, 1953, at the age of 44 years and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three brothers, Alfred, Sidney and Eugene; two sisters, Mrs. Ervin Schulze (Martha) and Mrs. Ervin Dieterich (Ella); two nephews and three nieces.

The Walter T. Enneberg Post American Legion, of St. Ansgar was in charge of the military service. Burial was in the family lot at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, with Reverend Gjervik in charge of the committal service.
