Henry Gustav Dahl, born in Orfordville, Wisconsin, Oct. 1, 1871, passed away at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota, on Nov. 13, 1956, after a brief illness. Mr. Dahl, was 85 years of age at the time of his death, which terminated 64 years of active business life, 11 years of which were spent in the hardware and implement line.

Henry was the son of Hans and Serianna Dahl. He came with his parents to Mitchell County, Iowa, when he was three years old. As a very young man he sold notions door to door to earn money to attend the St. Ansgar Seminary, where he took the business course to prepare himself for his active business career.

On Oct. 12, 1898 he was united in marriage to Emma Amanda Volstad. They made their home in Lyle, where he was employed in the local drug store. To this union were born five sons, Lloyd, Fred, Glenn, James and Paul, and two daughters, Genevieve and Evangeline.

In 1901 he went into the hardware business with John Schumacher and was active the business with his son, Lloyd and grandson, Glenn, until the time of his brief illness and death. . . .

He was a beloved and outstanding citizen of the community; a friend long to be remembered on Main Street. . . .

He was preceded in death by an infant son, James, three other sons, Fred, Glenn and Paul and his wife, Emma. He will be deeply missed by his son, Lloyd, two daughters, Mrs. Paul Ross, Alberta, Canada, and Mrs. Sterling Krause, Lyle, three brothers, Arthur Dahl and I.F. Dahl, Austin, T.J. Dahl, Lyle, a sister, Mrs. N.E. Fedson, Austin, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. . . .

Funeral services were held at the home at 11:30 a.m. and at the Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lyle (sic) with Worlein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
