SUDDEN DEATH

ANOTHER PIONEER GONE

H. O. Dahl, Prominent Citizen of Otranto Township Dropped Dead Near His Home Last Thursday.

Last Thursday evening the startling news was circulated thru St. Ansgar that Mr. Hans O. Dahl, one of the most prominent and esteemed citizens of Otranto township had dropped dead near his house one mile east of Otranto Station that afternoon. it came as a greater shock as he had not been known to have been suffering from ill-health. It appears that at noon he ate a hearty dinner. About the middle of the afternoon he went to the house and drank a cup of coffee, and then went back to complete some work he was doing at the water tank. He had evidently gone to the tank taken his spade and then feeling ill had started for the house and then dropped dead when he had gone about half of the distance. What the exact cause of his death was we did not learn.

OBITUARY

Hans O. Dahl, son of Paul and Inga Dahl, was born in Hallingdal Norway December 6th, 1845, and died in Otranto township, Mitchell County, Iowa, July 23, 1908, age 62 years, 6 months and 17 days. When Hans was 5 years of age in 1851 the family immigrated to America, settling in Rock county, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood.

On Sept. 11, 1868, he was united in marriage to Sereanna Olson. In the early seventies they came to Mitchell County. For a few years they lived a few miles north of St. Ansgar but after a few years he purchased a farm one mile west of Otranto station, which was his home until death. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dahl, nine of who with their mother mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate father and husband. These are as follows: Olaf, the miller at Otranto, Henry of the firm of Dahl and Nelson, Hardware merchants of Lyle, Invold and Sigurd, also merchants of Lyle, Thomas and Arthur remain at home.

Of the daughters, Mrs. L. A. Sherman of Lyle, Mrs. N. E. Fedson of Otranto and Rena who still remain at home with her mother. The funeral was held Saturday July 25th at the Norwegian Church at Mona, Iowa, being conducted by Rev. N. N. Esser, who preached from the text, Rev. 22-12 "Behold i come quickly and my reward is with me". The funeral was very largely attended by those who mourned the sudden departure of a prominent citizen and a valued friend.
