Theodore Thompson obituary
OBITUARY
Theo. Thompson was born in Winnebago County, Illnois, June 14, 1852 and died Feb. 13th, 1923. He moved to Mitchell County, Ia., with his parents in 1854 and located on a farm, 3 miles south of Mona. He was united in marriage to Bertha Fossay Feb. 7th, 1876, and is survived by his wife and nine children: Mrs. Chas. Berg, Oscar and Thos. of Velva, N. D.; Mrs. Theo Balinder, Lakota, N. D.; Mrs. A. E. Sundt, St. James, Minn.; Mrs. A. Cordes, Osage, Iowa; Mrs. J L Hobkirk, Tillie and Lewis of this vicinity.
By the death of Theodore Thompson this community lost one of its most congenial citizens. Like the argonants of old his parents left Illnois starting on a quest for greener pastures, when he was but a lad of two years. Over the bleak prairies of Illness, they traveled for days in pioneer style, entered Iowa and located in Mitchell County, which henceforth was destined to be his home. But little did the pioneers dream that Mitchell County was destined to be one of the garden spots of the middle west. Here Theodore grew to manhood and became identified with the development and process of the community. He was endowed with a robust constitution as well as a sunny disposition, and his good cheer and optimism were a tonic for the discouraged. Even in his declining years when infirmity pressed heavily upon him he was cheerful and glad to visit with his friends. We are heirs of the heroic work of the pioneers, who surmounted obstacles and disappointments, and we may fittingly pause for a few moments to pay homage.
