Jim A. Silbaugh, Sr., age 74, of Austin, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at the Austin Medical Center.

He was born on July 20, 1927, in Austin, to A. R. and Helen (Helgeson) Silbaugh.

He graduated from Austin High School in 1945. At the age of 16 he joined the United States Navy. In 1950 he received his diploma from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.

After 40 years with the George A. Hormel Company he retired as group vice president.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and flying his airplane. He was a member of Elks Lodge 414, the American Legion Post #91, the Austin YMCA, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Austin Country Club and Austin Aeroflight.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Silbaugh, Austin; daughters and son-in-law, Jim and Tracy Silbaugh, Jr., Superior, Colo.; five grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Adalia Silbaugh, Lyle; a niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Service: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kristin K. Wee officiating. Organist will be Neal Erickson. Casket bearers will be Ron Plath, Dave Larson, Stan Kerber, Tony Alonso, Jim Phillips and Mike Oliver.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. There will be no reviewal.
Interment: Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona.
Memorials: The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
