Funeral Rites Sunday
Funeral services for Peter Nelson, 81, of Mona, who passed away following a lingering illness March 7, were held Sunday, March 9, at the Mona Lutheran church, the Rev. Stanford Stenson officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Peter Nelson was born on a farm near Mona June 2, 1876, the son of Christen and Mariana Nelson. He attended the public school at Mona. As a young man he purchased land adjacent to his father's farm, where he established his home and resided until his death. He was the last surviving member of nine children.
September 17, 1901, he was married to Mina Larson at the Mona Lutheran church by the Rev. J. M. Eggen. Five children were born to this union. Mr. Nelson was baptized by Pastor Stenson on December 23, 1954.
He suffered a stroke on March 13, 1952, from which he never recovered. He passed away peacefully at his home at 7:00 p. m. Friday after being confined to his bed for the past six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Hanlis, and all his eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, three, daughters, Mrs. Rudolph [illegible: Haugard?] (Violet), Mrs. Adolph Jahr (Marian), of Lyle, and Helen at home, and one son, Willis of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Also one half-sister, Mrs. Grant Gullickson [illegible:Gullickson?] of Birmingham, Alabama, three half-brothers, Jensoff Livingston, Montana, Harris of San Leandro, California, and [illegible:?] of Fresno, California, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Albert Lea, Conger, Austin, Grand Meadow, Minnesota, and Garner and Osage, Iowa, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
