Morris Nelson, 49,
Takes Own Life

Despondency and ill health was blamed for the suicidal death of Morris Nelson, age 49, early Saturday morning at the farm home southeast of Mona where he resided with his mother, Mrs. Carrie Nelson.

He had arisen at the usual time, at 5:00 a. m., and his mother presumed he went about his daily routine of getting the cows from the pasture and milking. When she arose later and saw the pails setting beside the barn and the cows still in the pasture, she went to the barn to investigate, and found he had taken his own life by firing a 22 rifle into his mouth, and found her son dead.

Sheriff Louis Haberkorn and County Coroner R. Whitley were called and the body was taken to the Schroder & Houg Funeral Parlors at St. Ansgar.

Mr. Nelson, who hadn't been well for a time, had visited a doctor only last Saturday and was to have returned again the day he took his life.

He had listened to a ball game that evening before retiring and seemingly appeared no different than usual, other than that he had been extremely nervous of late and unable to sleep well.

Funeral Services

Funeral services for Morris Nelson were held Tuesday, July 31, at 2 p. m. at the Mona Lutheran church, with assistant Pastor Melvin Hauge of St. Olaf Lutheran church of Austin officiating in the absence of the regular pastor, Rev. S. Stenson.

Morris Nelson was born March 27, 1907, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nelson. He was reared in the Mona community and also received his education in the Mona school. He also received his religious instructions in the Mona church and was confirmed there when a young man by Rev. A. Elmer Moe. He made his home with his mother on the farm southwest of Mona.

His father preceded him in death in 1933 and also a brother, Clayton, age 21, also in 1933 who was accidentally killed while felling trees.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Carrie Nelson, one sister (Grace), Mrs. Harlis Anderson of St. Paul, and three brothers, Ernest of Albert Lea, Vernon of Conger, Minn., and Harlan of Mona.

Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery south of Mona.
