1888 Mrs. Emma Jahr 1957
Emma Helena Jahr, daughter of Amon and Helga Olson, was born July 4, 1888, in Lyle Township, and passed away on Saturday evening, Sept. 21, 1957, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 18 days.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Mona, Iowa, and was a faithful member of the Lyle congregation all her life.
Mrs. Jahr spent nearly all her life in Lyle, except for the past several years when she lived with her son, Glaydon, at Austin. She was a loving mother who found her God given calling in guiding her family in the Christian Way.
She was united in marriage with George N. Jahr on Jan. 29, 1912, at Mason City, Iowa. This union was blessed with eight children- two daughters and six sons: Thelma (Mrs. Joe Nockels), Charles City, Iowa; Ione (Mrs. Roger Huff) Austin, Orvis and Glaydon of Austin; Noren of Mankato; Vernon of Long Beach, Calif.; and Arthur of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and by one son, Omer.
She leaves to mourn her passing seven living children; three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Schwanke and Mrs. Julia Peterson, Lyle, Mrs. Annie Dennis, Austin; two brothers, Sam and Ole Olson, Lyle; four daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, 21 grandchildren; nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sept. 24, 1957, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle, the Rev. David Helgen officiating with the Worlein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa.
The pallbearers were Elmer Schwanke, Donald Peterson, Claire Johnson, Elmo Jahr, Delmar Helfritz and Russell Helfritz.
