Gerd Haugen

Gerd Marthe Haugen, 93, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar. Funeral services were held Saturday May 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mona Lutheran Church, Mona with Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona. Visitation was Friday from 5 - 7 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Gerd Marthe (Westend) Haugen was born January 5, 1921 in Jevnaker, Norway. She was born to Ivar Westend Hognes and Karen Olimb Westend Hognes.

Gerd came to St. Ansgar, Iowa on August 2, 1948 and became a US citizen on November 18, 1952. Gerd was married to Odell K. Haugen on December 11, 1949. They had 2 children Linda Lagoni of Canby, OR and Terry Haugen of St. Ansgar.

She died at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar on Monday May 26, 2014, where she had resided for the last 12 years.

She took great pride in her flower and rose gardens and enjoyed baking, knitting and quilting.

She was proceeded in death, by her husband Odell, brothers Hans Hognes and Brand Hognes of Norway, sister Reidun Hegelund of Alingsas, Sweden, her parents and brother-in-law Leland Haugen and sister-in-law Hattie Haugen of Mona, IA.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Lagoni and her husband, Bill and their children; a son Terry Haugen and his wife, Faye and their children, Karen (Todd) Blood, SSG Erik (Brooke) Haugen and Matthew (Candice) Haugen and 6 great grandchildren.
