Death of Colin Gould.

Colin Gould was born at Aberdeen, Scotland, July 11, 1829, and died at his home near Mona, Iowa, July 26, 1895, aged 66 years and 15 days. In 1857 he emigrated to America. He visited various places, remaining but a short time, and after a time he went to Dismal Swamp, North Carolina, where he engaged in blacksmithing at the time the canal was being built. But here he was unfortunate being cheated out of his earnings. He then left that place and came to St. Ansgar, Iowa, where he engaged in blacksmithing. In 1864 he married at St. Ansgar to Miss Martha Anderson, a native of Bergen, Norway. After living in St. Ansgar for some time, he purchased a farm northeast of St. Ansgar which he run for two years and then moved to the farm in Otranto township which ever afterwards was his home.

A large family of children were born to them, several of whom preceded him to the great beyond. And seven sons and three daughters remain with their mother to mourn his departure. These are: Frank, William, John, Ed., Charles, Andrew and George and Emma, Mary and Cora. The younger of these are yet children.

He was well known and very highly respected, having been honored by the people by being elected to several political offices.

On Friday afternoon he, together with the hired man went out into the field to shock grain; suddenly he dropped over, a few minutes later he was discovered by the hired man, but he died before any aid could be summoned, supposed to be caused by apoplexy brought on by excessive heat. The funeral was conducted at the home on Sunday afternoon by Rev. Fellow's of Minneapolis, was one of the largest ever held in the community, a procession of nearly seventy vehicles following his remains to their last resting place at the Mona cemetery.
