Foss, Carl Martin
Carl Martin Foss was born in Mitchell county Iowa, April 27, 1870. He was baptized by Rev. Gjeldaker in infancy.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Foss, with their family, moved to a farm near London where Carl, after proper instruction was confirmed by the Rev. O. Nilson, at the Shell Rock Lutheran church, near Northwood, Iowa.

On March 13, 1902 he was united in marriage to Clara Josephine Bergeson of Deer Creek, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Harry and Cora.

They established their home on a farm near Deer Creek, working at farming for a number of years in the Deer Creek, London and Lyle vicinities. Through most of these years he also worked at threshing.

Five years ago the family moved to Lyle where he has since resided. Mr. Foss has been in failing health the past few years but was always working at odd jobs when even his strength would permit it. On Dec. 15, 1945 he suffered a stroke and he was taken to the St. Olaf hospital in Austin where he remained six weeks, when he had improved sufficiently to be taken to his home at Lyle, where he was tenderly cared for by his daughter, Cora.

At 8 o'clock, Sunday evening Feb. 24 he suffered a second stroke and in a short time went into a como from which he never rallied although everything in the power of man was done for him, but to no avail. He passed away Monday forenoon, Feb. 25 at 11 o'clock, at the age of 75 years, 9 mo. and 28 days.

Mr. Foss was a member of the Lyle Lutheran church. He was a faithful and loving father, and will be greatly missed by his children as well as his numerous relatives and friends. His wife preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1943, also three brothers and one sister.

Surviving him are his children Cora and Harry both of Lyle, two brothers L J and O J Moss of London, three sisters Mrs. S P Jensen of Buffalo, Mrs. J. Prehoda of London and Mrs. Emma Pratt of El Centro, California, besides numerous nephews and other relatives.

Almer Bergeson and son Almo and Carl Gran of Spring Grove were here to attend the funeral which was largely attended by friends from Adams, Austin, Albert Lea, St. Angsar, Northwood, Carpenter besides local friends.
